Funk n Bowl with Russ Winstanley & Brian Rae Russ Winstanley (Wigan Casino) Brian Rae (Wigan Casino & Twisted wheel) Johnny Stallard (Soul Train) Lee Hasking (Soul Train) Greg Alexander & Soul Big (Bristol Soul Mafia) This is a night of Northern Soul/Motown/Funk/and a bit of 60s ska this will make any mod or soul boy very happy and 2013 is the 40th anniversary of Wigan Casino so this will be a big one 9pm-late £4 adv tickets from Bristol Ticket Shop http://www.bristolticketshop.co.uk/ M.O.T.D Russ Winstanley Described as the best uk soul DJ. He is best known for his championing of Northern Soul music, most famously when he founded the Wigan Casino in 1973. Both Wigan Casino and Russ Winstanley won many awards for best venue and best DJ. Creating the famous Soul Allnighters at Wigan Casino with over 4 million people passed through the venue running four days a week unfortunately ending 6 December 1981. Russ has still been very active, both on the Northern Soul circuit and in radio. He has hosted his own show on BBC Radio and xfm, but is now hosting a regular northern soul show on Sunshine Radio.co.uk every Sunday 5 til 7. In 1997 Russ compiled Telstar Records northern soul album "Soul Survivors" which has become the biggest selling northern soul compilation ever grossing over £2million. In 1998, his book "Wigan Casino Story" joined the best sellers' list. In 2008, Russ has been featured in BBC TV's "Soul Britannia" and "Dance Britannia" and special Northern Soul features on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio He was also part of the DJ line-up on the Craig Charles 12hr soul all-nighter 2011. Brian Rae From the famous Twisted Wheel club and Wigan Casino is famous for his sets. All over the world his selection of original 45s have had a impact on popular dance club and radio throughout the UK. Having bought original 45s first time round is why some say in the 70's he was the best in the uk, Johnny Stallard Wowing party people of Bristol for over 40 years with his big soul funk and Motown tunes, his highlight has been Glastonbury Festival alongside Fatback Band and played with Gil Scott Heron, Edwin Starr John. Lee Hasking One of Bristol's top soul DJs and well known for Motown and soul sets all over Bristol. He features as one of soul train's top dj's Greg Alexander & Soul Big Two funky white boys who were breast fed on soul funk Motown reggae and ska and its their love for this music that got the two DJing together
