Only 4 more sleeps.  I did wonder why when I booked this weekend away with Alison that my other half didnt kick up a fuss about coming, but didnt argue.

Yesterday he said are you looking forward to your modern soul weekend in Scotland. Errr, what you on about, it is a modern soul weekend & reeled the dj's off to him. His face was a picture!. He isnt a modern fan, but no way did I lead him to believe it was a modern soul weekend to have a girls weekend away :wicked:

I'll play him a copule of tracks down the phone while I'm there   :D x

Well I've been umming & ahhing about TrueSoul this year despite enjoying myself immensely at last years Saturday day (Ruffcut) and evening sessions but I've finally decided to 'kick it' & 'get in there' - Saturday sesh only this time.

So now I'm getting a bit excited and as the ladies would say even a little bit of wee came out although it's all wiped up and clean now!

To all my muckers, male & female, see you Saturday & to those who are doing the whole weekend let me say take it easy on Friday night FFS - some of you were in a right old state on the Saturday last year (especially you Tony Smith - although I suppose you could wear your sunglasses again).

Pmsl, cos thats the kind of thing he would do :D. I can only think that because Alison tends the prefer her modern, he assumed that we were going to a modern weekender & didnt ask.

Mind you, I did once take him to a do in Retford & fail to tell him it was a modern do & had all my mates in on it, it was a good half an hour before somebody said that they didnt expect to see him there & had he moved to the dark side, he hadnt actually noticed himself  . He was livid :D  x

All a bit quiet in here, Dave obviously packing Louise's shoes, while sneakily trying them all on, Andy Whitmore changing the padlock to his wallet for the 4th time today, Suzanne filling her water bottle with gin, Colin getting grumpy with his little one as he drives the ball further than daddy, again, and Lesley agreeing with her Mum, okay another bottle of wine before lunch won't harm us, hic, and off course all the DJ's too busy digging deep into their boxes to find something a little different and a little tasty!

That will explain the silence.

Me I am too busy putting my records into storage, again, and remembering why I said I would never move my collection again! Anyone wanting to buy bulk?

See you all Friday lunchtime, when I will be anything but quiet. Surprise, surprise!

Why stop at only Louise's shoes when you can accessorise with a pair of fishnet tights, I got some real strange looks wearing them over my head when collecting my bank of clydesdale pound notes from the bureau de change in Tesco's  then later when recieving my rabies inoculation at the doctor's. Don't want a repetition of last year when I was savaged by wee fuffy snarling wild eyed beasty  a scottish wild cat I hear you ask ? no ! just Frazer Dunn when I foolishly tried to remove his partially finished pint after last orders, frightening he made the excorist look as scary as a Blue Peter presenter

Sad news about the Panda's jock, you should never have taken your bookie'up on a accumulator bet that included Louise staying sober between the 5th to the 8th of September, Susanne passed a shoe shop without putting a big dent in Andy's credit card, Alex Salmon becoming the President of Scotland, Man Utd winning the Premiership and a pair of panda cubs (other than a lookalike pair of slippers out of Aldi) :wicked:

Well back home from the weekender at Pebbles, great hotel, dance floor good,

Lots of friendly people, but the music in my own personal opinion, was a bit hit and miss,

Some DJ's played music for the people attending this venue, but other DJ's played what they wanted

too hear, with maybe two people on the dance floor and mostly empty, If I was a DJ, I would be thinking

I will have to change my set and play the records that the DJ's from Aberdeen did during the Saturday daytime session, Northern Soul, as 90% of the people who attended are into that type of music, hopefully my comments will not offend, but I would like to be up dancing, rather than sat most of the night on my seat.

Attended friday night looking  forward to the SSW, arrived about 7.30, went straight  into the hall to grab a decent seat, I could of had almost any seat only 2 people to contend with, sat shouting at each other even though there were only 4 people in the hall, sat for about 2 hours until I heard my first recognisable track, the music was to LOUD for an empty hall great quality system though, we left before the witching hour (up for work in the morning)missed Butch who was on at 1, the atmosphere was very poor, I could of lied and said it was great ...but it wasn't, good luck in future I think you will need it KTF

Hi Tuka, Like your comments, could agree with you 100%, very poor venue, maybe some of the DJ's

Should attend Bridlington to hear the music they play to get a busy dance floor and most important

The SOUND LEVELS RIGHT, sorry for shouting !!!!!!!

Pardon me-but why would the DJ`s want to go to Bridlington? Are they missing something?

Looks to me like a quality line up of people who are passionate about the music.

The "tasters" posted above give an indication of what to expect-I thought that they were full of good tunes.

IMHO-as they say.

Am I missing something here?.  I'd travelled from Leeds along with a load of other English & Europeans to hear sounds that I hadnt heard before. I could of gone to Scarborough, I would of been there in an hour, but wanted to try something different.

For me, Peebles did exactly what it said on the tin, great sets off the dj's on an evening. I attend quite a lot of underplayed nights, along with the more run of the mill venues (because I like it all!) & there was hardly any tunes that I had heard before. But I like it that way...for me it is all about hearing new things & keeping the scene new & exciting, (dosent mean I like every record though). We had this discussion on Saturday afternoon, everyones different, some people like to just hear records they know.

I also really enjoyed the Saturday afternoon session there as well. I was sat in there (on my own) from bang on 12 oclock as a friend of mine was deejaying, right the way through until 6 o'clock when it was time to go for dinner & thought that the scottish deejays played some brilliant stuff, all stuff that everyone knows. So for me there was that balance, I got to hear a bit of everything.

Another thing that I must add was how friendly & welcoming everyone was, I always find that north of the border anyway.

Likewise you can always tell a dancers lack of movement by the amount of records he doesn't know about.Peebles is a upfront venue that doesn't revolve around the northern top 200 oldies often found on the latest budget supermarket cd. The clue can be found in the events name "True SOUL Weekender"

I for one really enjoyed it and so did the rest of the old farts who were still partying at 5am on the Sunday morning even pissed they know more, contributed more, have forgotten more than any of the above events detractors, and guess what not one piece of critism came from their lips. Without new music this scene will fast disappear down the toilet !!

Eh Yes I did say something to one of the people who put on this venue, and guess what he agreed with my comments, and asked Dj's to change their set,

And as for the tell a dancers lack of movement, I don't think so, that's why I'm in the

new Northern Soul Film.

My nanna is in the new northern soul film as well.... she's 96! What is wrong with just admitting that you didn't read the music policy before hand, instead of launching into an utter pile of dribble. It's not or never has been an oldies or a classics venue (there's a huge clue in the line up and write up).  As for the floor filling well you really don't have to be a DJ to do that, I know so well, so does my Nanna, just que the well known danceable record and off you go ta dah!

I loved it, the dance floor was full, the people absolutely out of this world, music the dogs bollocks as where those who spun them (especially Colin and his lovely better half Lesley).

I'll definitely be back next time though might have to bring me bloody passport depending on Thursday's result.

Thanks one and all for a truly amazing night from the Jordibird. Bruce n H xxx
