Event Information

July's SOSA at Hoochie Coochie has another fantastic guest Dj line up. From York we have Andy Bellwood and from the seasons of soul in Jesmond Newcastle we have Deano who is returning for another SOSA session.

Over the last five years as an avid collector of often left field soul , Andy is equally at home DJ’ing in the main rooms at some of the Uks notable soul weekenders including Whitby , Blackpool and recently Weston Super Mare as well as abroad at the Perpignan Soul Weekenders and locally , the York Mod festival in 2010 . Andy’s also a regular contributor to soul publications, including ‘Manifesto Soul Magazine’, ‘In the Basement’ , both with world wide distribution along with the soul fanzine ’Soul Up North’. Currently a resident DJ at The Riley Smith Hall (Tadcaster) , Waterfront Blues N Soul Club (York) and A Taste of Honey (Manchester), Andy has also DJ’d the length and breath of the UK including for YK Soul , Volks (Brighton) , Manifesto Soul Club, Soulsville (Leeds) , City Soul (York) York Soul Club and the Kings Hall All nighter (Stoke) with the Skegness weekender and Spiders Web (Edinburgh) on the horizon.

At the Waterfront Blues & Soul Club chill out events, Andy usually plays an eclectic mix of 7ts, modern and progressive soul , with unpredictable diversions into soulful Jamaican sounds and raw 6ts RnB, while at the evening events floor fillling 7ts anthems and current monsters tend to be the norm - but as always, expect the unexpected ….

Deano is no stranger to Hoochie and went down a storm when he was a guest in 2013. Its FREE ENTRANCE starts at 3:00pm is a great way to spend a sunday afternoon /evening with top notch soul music spun.

Surely the ultimate 7 day / night soul club ! For those who don't know Hooche Coochie , highly recommended , just check out the website . For those that do , the accolades will strike a chord...understated style and sophistication , fabulous music and atmosphere, amazing sound system - just loved it! Big thanks to everyone, especially Dave Hancock , Deano ( particularly liked Impressions tunes played), Micky Bish and Warren - all in all quite emotional for an ex North Shields lad. Great crowd genuinely interested in the across the board soul music and who couldn't resist dancing ...will post plays in 'playlists' and a little more when I download what was displayed on the wall .. Oh and as a piece of original art work from Paris, 'Lola' is amazing .Brunch @ Cafe Royal - fabulous & made a weekend of it staying at The Grey St Hotel just round the corner - very nice and do discount off the cheapest rate for 'Hoochie Coochie' clientel.

not sure how to add a photo on here so this is what it says ...

Hoochie Coochie exists to be the home of black music soul, funk & jazz in Newcastle

We strive to maintain a friendly atmosphere and create an ambience where lovers of this music can congregate with like minded individuals

We expect people to be respectful of others including our staff. Our music policy is not intended to be mainstream , so don't expect it to be !

Any net profit  made in Hoochie Coochie at the end of each year will be given to charities nominated by the owners then chosen by our staff.

We support the causes we are passionate about ...music and eradicating racism.

We do this for the love of the music not for the money.
