Hi Guys

Anybody else planning to celebrate their birthday at the Wilton on the 19th March?

Me thinks Alison's birthday is the day after mine, and some more were mentioned to me at the Ann Sexton Concert, but I can't remember who.

Please let us know.

It looks like being a good old Wilton get together!!!

PM me if you're shy!!!

Cheers Dave, it's really kind of you to mention me (& others) on your flyer for birthday celebrations

I'm really flattered that you have thought of me when the night should be dedicated to you only but hey this 21 year old (who's 22 on 22nd March) will definitely be there to help give you 70 bumps.

See you in March for lots & lots of fun

Ali xx

Hey Dave

Really looking forward to helping you celebrate your 70th on Saturday.

Do you think if we added up all the birthday years that will be celebrating on Saturday we could get to a 1000.   I think so, you've got us off to a good start with your 70, sadly my 21 years won't help get to a 1000, but it would be fun seeing how much we could get to, I'll bring the calculator :)

It's soooo nice to have a Wilton in March!!

See you Saturday for fun & frolics

Ali xxx

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..............................",

Think it was circa. 1963 ........................................................by the way these were NOT the true US acts but made up groups cashing in on new found soul popularity, and were managed by someone called Peter or Paul Guest, who when threatened to be sued by Motown, simply prefixed the names with 'Fantastic' .............................if in fact any groups/acts actually appeared at all, this is all from the memories with Howard Taylor dj at the Crystal Bowl

Did actually see Jnr Walker and the All-Stars (real) plus some others such as Zoot Money & Big Roll Band, Geno Washington, Jimmy James & the Vagabonds ....................................................happy dayz....................Boxy should be able to recall these events.

I can definitely remember those nights at the Tin Chicken (Crystal Bowl). 1963!!! I didn't miss many. I started work in 1961 at Sharlston Pit and most of my weeks wages (£5.50) went on records, what was left went on admissions to clubs like the TC. Hey what about the late night transport to get you back home at 2/6d. When the Twisted Wheel opened we all had occasional trips over, when we could afford it. Didn't need any money for the train fare from Leeds, amazing how far you could get on a Platform Ticket in those days, provided you could hide in the toilets  on the train  and climb the wall at Victoria station. Howard and Lesley's sisters were regulars at the TC along with Steve Mathews and the notorious Ponte lot.

I keep in touch with Howard and Lesley and their family in OZ and keep him up to date with the current UK soul scene, but miss them and my good friend Skitch (David Skidmore) and Peter Balance RIP. I'm sure there will be a few more of the old crowd from those days at the Wilton tomorrow. See you all there!!! When the TC closed Howard and myself started soul nights and nighters at Normanton Baths Hall - Normy Baths as it was affectionately known, for quite a few years. Yes, I'm still at it!! at 70.

We also had Georgie Fame at the TC in the social club section.

Just thought I'd put some comments on SS about last nights do at the Wilton. We were there to Celebrate Dave's 70th birthday bash along with a few other birthday boys and girls. I would just like to say what a fantastic night it was, the turnout was superb with friends you see regularly and friends you haven't seen for years that's what made it for me and I'm sure it did for Dave as he must have been well chuffed. We didn't stop till the end but while we were there all the Dj's all did excellent spots.A big thanks to Dave and co organisers for staging the event and a big thanks to Val for the  food laid on by themselves. Also thanks to everyone Jacque and I know for just being there and making the night for us,a truly nice experience.

Regards Fred&Jacque Ward
