SOUL PROVISION on
Soul Provision: A fine selection of Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz & Rocksteady Reggae hosted by Jonny Crawshaw.
Next Date: Saturday 28th February, 4pm-11pm — Our First Anniversary!
After the unexpected treat of Brett Franklin’s last minute addition to January’s line up (joining Dean Atkins & Nice Boy Dave), the bar has been well and truly raised! Another great night with an absolutely fantastic vibe throughout!
February marks the first anniversary of Soul Provision and to help celebrate, I will be joined by two of Manchester’s up & comers... Martin Haddock & Ink Rickards
Martin Haddock & Ink Rickards (AKA At Large DJs Ink and Orko)
This pair of vinyl enthusiasts have been putting on nights in and around Manchester for the last 10 years as two-thirds of the At Large crew. Specialising in Funk, Soul and Hip Hop it is the former two that they will be showcasing for our listening pleasure. Over the last few months, Ink & Orko have been engaged in a duel-to-the-death series of mixtapes bringing out the best of their Northern, Xover, Funk, etc... well worth a listen, you can check them here:
As ever, Soul Provision will be hosted by:
Jonny made his name in Scotland under the moniker DJRed6 where he ran a number of successful nights at Edinburgh’s legendary Bongo Club; notably his funk club, “Give It Some!”, the Scottish arm of Soul Jazz Record’s long-running Reggae session “100% Dynamite!” and “Solid Steel” on behalf of Ninja Tune. He returned to his home town of York with his young family in 2009 but regularly travels the country with his prized box of 45s. He is known for his eclectic, dance floor friendly sets covering all bases from Funk, Soul, R&B & Jazz, through into Rocksteady Reggae and beyond.
Soul Provision is a social session - toe-tapping rather than hip-shaking — and is conceived as a coming together of like-minds in this intimate gem of a pub; The Golden Ball is famed for it's historic interior and excellent selection of Ales (it is also York’s only cooperatively owned and run pub, as well as being the first pub in York to pay the living wage to all staff). If you love great music, great ale and great surroundings, this is the place for you!
Soul Provision is held the last Saturday of every month at The Golden Ball, 2 Cromwell Rd, Bishophill, York. It is Free Entry, starts from 4pm and runs till 11pm (due to the PRS licence — beer is served till 1130pm so we can all sit down afterwards and discuss the music!)
