How come the walk back to Liverpool St takes at least half an hour and always results in waking up on the train holding a family bucket of KFC ?

A good evening at the Shooting Star, some fine music played by all of the DJs. Guest Alan Hanscombe-McGrath played an excellent danceable set including Etta James' Can't Shake It, pity my right leg was giving me problems so couldn't dance. I thought the way Des Parker played Kelly Garrett's Love Is The Only Answer among a set of rarer tunes was an example of how classic oldies can fit right in with lesser known tunes, something other DJs might contemplate. Oldies are great but not a whole set, at least not for me, and on the other hand a complete set of totally unknowns isn't always successful.

Incidentally thanks for putting Alan on at 10.20, that enabled me to hear all of his set before leaving for my train. I hope this will be the new policy for guests.

If anyone who's not been to SHS is interested, you hear proper Northern Soul, but not the same old top 100 tunes ad nauseum, but well thought out sets.
