Event Information

Soul Provision: A fine selection of Rare Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz & Rocksteady Reggae hosted by Jonny Crawshaw & Dean Atkins.

Or put another way: Soulful Sounds In A Boozer That Oozes Soul!

Next Date: Saturday 24th September, 4pm-11pm

With Very special guests : Debbie T (Debbie Turner) and Ricky N

Soul Provision is a social session - toe-tapping rather than hip-shaking – and is conceived as a coming together of like-minds in this intimate gem of a pub; The Golden Ball is famed for it's historic interior and excellent selection of Ales (it is also York’s only cooperatively owned and run pub, as well as being the first pub in York to pay the living wage to all staff). If you love great music, great ale and great surroundings, this is the place for you!

Soul Provision is held the last Saturday of every month at The Golden Ball, 2 Cromwell Rd, Bishophill, York. It is Free Entry, starts from 4pm and runs till 11pm (due to the PRS licence – beer is served till 11:30pm so we can all sit down afterwards and discuss the music!)

So soulful.  Popped in for a a few hours  & enjoyed this one with like minded people and great music. Nice to catch up with Blake & Nikki, Lynn & Dave, Brett Franklin, Richard Bayley, Jock Mitchell, Mick n Mo, Andy Hudson etc . and meeting Wally from Bradford - loved the story about his vinyl record finds in a York sex shop earlier in the day - tempted in I hasten to add by a small sign 'vinyl records for sale'.
So many great mid tempo tunes played by the Carib Soul boys, Tracey Shaw & John Browne not least Elsie Strong 'ask the lonely'. Always a mark of a good event for me - unknown to me tunes fuelling the wants list.
Soul Provision has always previously clashed with something else for us, now hope to be regulars. As for the venue, a gem - an unadulterated time warp real ale pub - wonderful ! A million miles alway from the corporate city centre, hen & stag party crowds etc yet just 10 minutes walk away.
