Evening everyone,

Well we're the day before 2015 longest day, can you believe it that on the following day the hours of daylight start to decrease? So what better way to celebrate this date than a night of quality Northern Soul, Motown and perhaps an hint or two of classy Rhythm'n'Blues music than here at "The Corner Pocket" unless of course you want to celebrate national flag day in Argentina

This month guest DJ is the well acclaimed Mr Mark Taylor and if his reputation is anything to go by once more your in for a great night, so see you all there unless of course you're celebrating national flag day in Argentina or perhaps even the birthday of the legend that is Alan Longmuir the bass player with the 70's popsters The Bay City Rollers.

Evening Woody and everyone,

Yeah as mention before The Epitome Of Sound disc "Where Were You" has become a firm favourite here at The Corner Pocket and really is a great tune in it's own right and to think it was on original release simply a "B" side.

One thing to look out for if you are in the market for buying a copy, there are some pretty good looking bootleg copies out there that might take one or two people unaware (the latest copies say licensed to Soulfulrecords.com on the bottom of the label) and easy to spot but there is both a red font issue and a black font DJ copy that are not so easy to tell apart from the original..... but if you look very carefully you can just see three very small stamping numbers just coming through the label on both sides, thanks to Tony aka Ado for that information and the deadwax also has the numbers 3051 in it. There is also a green copy that's a boot as well.

But here one copy that there's no danger in telling is a 100% fake and credited to Moses Smith instead of The Epitome Of Sound and if you think things can't get any worse the track has been layed down at the wrong speed (too fast) or perhaps has even being speeded up the running time is 2:47 on this and not 2:53 as it should be.

The very dodgy bootleg copy of "You Don't Love Me"

Russ

PS sorry can't find an audio file of this

Well it's a very good evening to everyone.

And already were at the halfway stage in the year and if today's weather has been anything to go by those long hot days of summer still seem a long way off....looks like summer Will be on a Wednesday this year and run from 7:30am till 9:15pm.

Well once more I'm without laptop internet connection so the smartphone is being used as a back up (so please excuse any misspellings or gramatic errors my chubby little fingers and phone keypads don't mix that Well)

All the team are really looking forward to another great night and we feel now that The Corner Pocket is getting it's own musical identity and that is based very much on a dance driven format and of course "the if we have it we'll play it philosophy" this month is no exception and dare I say it that we would never dismiss a requested time on the grounds of, overplayed, too commercial or the often used term " Wigan Pop" so if you fancy hearing some of these great old standards as well as current plays and soon to be big spins we're sure that The Corner Pocket will fit the bill.

This month's special guest DJ is the well respected soul spinner Mr Mark Taylor who like us all here plays to the floor and is a worthy addition to the events rosta, so as always remember to bring ya dancing shoes you're going to need them!

Back a little later as soon as the laptop permits.

Well done Miss T,

Great video that captures the spirit of The Corner Pocket but sadly if the camera adds 10lbs the moving picture must add 10lbs X E=mc2 or I need to shed a few pounds!

Well here in The Steel City it looks as though summer has finally arrived (officially it's the 21st June) but yesterday I decied to cut the garden hedge minus shirt or sun screen and I'm now sporting a rather fetching pink hue or as the colour is now refered to as Milk Shake so after only one day I've done the typical British tradition at of the first sign of a sunny day and it's shirt of and second degree burns.... ah how each year I swear I'll never do that again, a little bit like I'll never touch a Jager Bomb again!

So apart from the fact that the warm weather means you can't sleep it's really does make a very pleasent change.

Well even at this early stage feed back for this month event is very positive and all the team are looking forward to yet another great night of REAL across the board Northern Soul and Motown and at the risk of repeating myself we are truly a request friendly event and if you want a special record played that you haven't heard in a long long time this is the night for you, from old school favourites to current in demand spins and even up and coming sounds we're sure that your musical taste buds will be fully satisfied....

So remember to put the date in your diary, and don't forget to bring your dancing shoes.... you're going to need then.

Russ

Well first chance i've had to post for a while on the computer and it's so much easier that the phone....fat chubby fingers and small keypads dont mix.

Since last time both my garden hedge and sunburnt back look a lot better you might like to know (really you don't but i sharing the experience with you all anyhow)

                                           Sunburned_tailgater_zpspwrsz8rh.jpg

So not that long now for this months event, not sre waht the other fellas will be spinning but i'll be playing my usual blend of old school standards, with a helping of Pop Corn and a dash of Motown and i can say that any requested record i've been asked for is now in either the red or orange box so with any luck all musical tastes will be catered for (please excuse my lack of Delta Blues) bur i'm sure Woody in his vast collection will have one or two cuts from said musical genre and Tony aka Ado will have most certainly.

So we're well on track for the 20th and if early interest gets generated to attendees it will be standing room only at this event.....if you haven't been this event is a real must"

Hi everyone,

Just getting to grips with the new Soul Source site up date and just to mention it won't be much longer now (infact we're well into the countdown stage of things at this very moment)

So as we always say for the very best in Across The Board Northern Soul and Motown you don't need to look any further than here at The Corner Pocket, a great venue plus a nice talc friendly dance floor and very cheap bar prices, a top night guaranteed!

Here's.... Flame N' King "Oh Happy Day" so how this for a spot of 70's summer soul!
