my home town venue had some great times there in the 70's did my fist d.j.set  there in 79 then in the 80's went on to run the very sussesful Saturday night sessions in the bali hi with regular gust Keb and  Guy which lead to the return of all nighters there , run by Sean Gibbons  . last time I wad there in the late 90's early 2000's the place wasn't recognisable  downstairs had a small square floor , main room the floor had been reduced considerably on to levels and had a wall around it  , Mark you will remember the Saturday nights . May see you all there work permitting

A very welcome event to an iconic venue in Nottingham and the East Midlands. The interior may have changed, but who cares about that.

It's gonna be a great to have an Allnighter back in the city even if it is just a one off.

Could the promoter or someone in the know confirm if there is a wooden dance floor, the pictures on google images don't look to appealing...

Thanks

my lasting memories of palais was 1978 when Rob Smith played Sam Williams and out of a massive room full of people only Frank Weston (Peterborough) and I danced to it, Rob said over the mic at least there was two soul fans there and as if to prove his point he then played James Coit - Black Power and the floor filled. Swore I'd never go back there after that, and never did but just may give it a try on the 27th :) after all, we're all 35 years older

Hi Andy  yes will be there im sure it will be a great night mark  especially wit soul sam behind the decks  as I know he wont give in to the top 500 crowd hopefully mick .h  will also play something different . in its day the palias was always know for being a forward thinking venue . and as you may recall it was certainly that in the 80's  when we had the Saturday nights and nighters

see you both there

Put a nighter on in 83 , manager was an arse at the time, we had to start late Coz of the normal Sat night local crowd. At that time the Palais had the original wooden dance floor, we never ran the room down stairs, with the revolving floor, always a double check on a come down from a nighter the previous night - that was the one and only event we put on there.

Went back to the Palais some years later and the wooden floor was gone and a Saturday night fever with flashing lights plastic floor even had the grid type was in place. That was in the late 80ts never been back since. DJ booth had also moved as well from the left hand side to the right and made it higher.

Well after much anticipation a massive let down. What's the point in having two rooms that are playing the same music ? The beer prices were extortionate (I know the promoters can't control this) when they actually had some and the venue was not conducive to a Northern soul night, totally unrecognisable from the original,IMHO.There was the odd track that got my feet moving but all in all it was the same old top 500.Sam started his set well with Sam Williams then Al Williams but even he deteriorated after that and Mick H played the odd different track but no one really put together a set to keep the floor packed. We had a mini bus and a few were staunch oldies fans and even they felt let down.I don't like having a go at promoters as I know what a difficult job it is but surely a bit of variety is required in this day and age.

The Palais is totally unrecognisable from the way it was and for me it is every bit as atmospheric as the old place. Thoroughly enjoyed the night, dance floor was busy all night and sound system excellent.  For me the best venue of them all.

Yule.
