Kings Hall Stoke July 16th 2016

I like many, I am no stranger to the Kings Hall Allnighter; if you have never been then you simply must as it is a truly spectacular event that stands alone within the Allnighter Scene, the cathedral like venue gives a blasting experience like no other and many compare this with Wigan Casino for atmosphere and vibe, it is certainly an occasion and one that I hope will last for a very long time!

Our party arrived early to a mass of Soulies who had come from near and far with a healthy smattering of the Scottish Posse, always good to see those who have travelled so far to do this venue. It was a hot summer’s night, some say that the Nighters are a winter sport but the evening saw very high numbers and a real sense of party atmosphere was present. The queue had faces old and new, seasoned veterans and first timers all looking forward to those doors opening.

I wish I could capture what happens when those doors open and you pass through the entrance into the vast dance hall with that sprung polished dance floor, the stage, the balcony and that sound system that completely lifts you off, gone are the stresses of normal life and you enter into a night time world of dance and celebration of all things Northern Soul.

The dance floor fills immediately, contrary to popular belief the bar area works well and there are people who just wish to have a great evening and a great evening it is!

I stand for a moment drinking it all in then it is into Windsor Suite where John n Julie take this alternative room into a different atmosphere giving the dancers a glimpse of new and underplayed, Modern, Seventies, Oldies and rare, there are no beard strokers and the room is not about DJ’s playing to each other or showing off their record boxes, it is about that dance floor yet the quality line is higher than a high thing!

Julie is so modest and I do not think she actually knows just how good she is, the dance floor reacts at her selected spins, the tempo rises and the music is funky, fun, fresh, exciting and infectious! There are always one or three surprises, the dancers are up for it and that is very apparent and sets the tone for the Windsor Suite and the DJ’s raise their game and this in turn is both appreciated and spurs this room upwards and onwards.

Andy 'Tats' Taylor takes to the decks and it is a joy, I can see that he is loving every second of it and each spin is welcomed and enjoyed, Ted Massey is on next and complete smashes it out of the park, Soul Sam takes to the decks and gives a master class of introducing new and unheard dancefull soul with two brand new outings that send the dance floor wild!

The Kings Hall Allnighter really does give two for the price of one, you get two very different and very high quality Allnighters both in the same location that provides real choice and allows you to sample two very different sides of the Allnighter Scene and that is a clever trick to pull off and one that sees me going back to the Kings Hall Allnighter time and time again.

Thank you to Kev and Team
