Just got the cd listing from Alan and as you can see it's quality all the way for our first soul night in 2016.

35 cd's go to the first punters through the door, so get there early if you want one.

One of the friendliest clubs in the UK with a big appetite for quality rare soul - OVO......

Not long now for the 2016 season at The rafa Club - Scotland's Alan Jenkins has confirmed full support and we've managed to get hold of Nancy Yahiro (Los Angeles) as one of the local guest DJ's playing alongside Nev Griffiths. Paul Ackley - our monthly rare soul specialist also booked in with his Pandora's box of delight.

Sure to be a great night and a good return of the club after 2015.

Looking forward to seeing you all there - Regards Paul.

23 blinders from Ian to kick the night off and to get the floor going before Alan Jenkins steps up for his first 30 minute warm up set. These 30 minute sets work great in introducing a dj and keeps things going with a “records - what’s going to be next?” feeling......

Alan got to the club early on to get a feel for the place and arrived with quite a few followers from Scotland – you’ve got to take your hat off to these soul fans for travelling such a distance and supporting our small soul club in Newton Aycliffe. After about 10 seconds of showing how to get around the mixer away he went :

The Four Sights – love is a hurting game I can’t win – Shy Soul

The Marlboros – My love was a sunny day – Ando

James Dockery – My love in you is all gone – Soul Craft

Little David – I want the good life - Symphony

Ray Pollard – This time – Shrine

Stormie Wynters – Life saver - Mercury

The Professionals  - That’s why I love you – groove City

30 minutes of 7” vinyl heaven from Alan paving the way for something a bit different and Nancy Yahiro (Los Angeles) came to the decks after such short notice of asking her to dj kicking off with:

The Variations – I wanna take you uptown – Right On

Claude Huey – Why would you blow it – Galaxy

Linda Jones - Just Can’t live my life  - WB

Ray Medina – head’s Head – Mares

Marcia Hines – Gotta let go – Dig – it

Dynamics – Ain’t no love at all - Cotillion

Seven Souls - I’m no stranger – Okeh

Billy Keene – Wishing and hoping - Vault

Ann Sexton – You’ve been gone too long – Seventy 7

Dynells  - Call on me  - Atco

Master Plan – Clinton Park – De-Lite

Phew!!! Feet stat a movin’ for sure, some great underplayed and raer soul that you can only hear at The Rafa Club. A great first 30 minutes from Nancy with the floor full to the Variations “Uptown”Latin tinged soul from Ray Medina  and classic Linda Jones – more to follow.... Paul Ackley next up with a quick 30 minutes of MONSTER SOUL.

Eddie Whitehead – Just your fool – Black Jack

Ernie Johnson – I can’t stop the pain – Artco

Chuck Cockerham – Have I the right  - Mala

Billy Byrd – Lost – Scream

Ebonystic – Ain’t no good – Scream (A rafa club fave now)

How good was that lot!!! It just set up Nancy Yahiro perfectly to carry on where she left off:

Scott Three – Running wild – March (this is such a great dancer in the same vein as Bill Murphy)

Jimmy Delphs – Our last Goodbye – Hayley’s ( flip of the new release)

Roy Roberts – I know what to do to satisfy you – Tina

Sag War Fare – Don’t be so jive  - Libra (Feet bleeding now)

Soul Stirrers – Don’t you worry – Checker

Limitations  - I’m Lonely – Bacone

Exciters – Let me do my thing – Jaber

United Sounds – It’s all over – United (what a track to finish this off with – phew!!!!)

For a first appearance at the Rafa Club – didn’t the girl done good! Thanks for that Nancy – we look forward to having you back soon. 2nd set for Paul Ackley to follow with – well you know what....

Larry Clinton – She’s wanted in three states – Dynamo

Del-Larks – Job Opening Pt.1. – Queen city

An absolutely great night which if you weren’t there you missed out big style. Many thanks to those who travelled to the club from Falkirk, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Clitheroe, Burnley and good to see George Rouse and friends from Carlisle (came in a boat those guys). Many thanks for a great night dj’s and new friends – we hope to see more in next month with John Manship (the rare soul man) making a long awaited trip up north to THE RAFA CLUB NEWTON AYCLIFFE with not forgetting the promoters and Paul Ackley  BE THERE OR BE SQUARE (or just miss what is going to be one of the best soul nights this year).

It was an absolute pleasure to play down at the RAFA on Saturday night.

All the team work so very hard to put on a quality night for the paying customers & they thoroughly deserve the high esteem the club holds.

If you've never been, you really have to make an effort to get there & I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I was.

You are guaranteed a friendly welcome from both the organisers & dancers too.

Then there is the music.......just check out the playlists from previous nights also & you'll see what's on offer.

I'm sure you'll agree it's a quality night from start to finish.

Anyway, I'd just like to thank all the lads involved & the dancers for making the trip down an absolute delight.

Best wishes,
