Hull has been named as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2016, alongside destinations such as Reykjavik, Mexico City and Seoul.

Rough Guides put the city - once labelled as one of the worst places to live in the UK - eighth on its list ahead of its reign as UK City of Culture in 2017.

The travel guide publisher said:  "It'll be brimming with new hotels and restaurants, and even more of that distinctive home-grown creativity the city has always had.

"There are atmospheric old-timey pubs, eight excellent museums and a picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets.

"This year's fun is set to culminate in the September Freedom Festival, when the entire city is turned into a stage for performers and artists."

Visitors should also try to take in the city's marina, The Deep aquarium and the retro Fruit Market area, according to the Visit Hull and East Yorkshire website.

“Polite reminder that this is a non-smoking venue including electronic cigarettes and please note drinks and talcum powder are not allowed on the dance floor”

Nows the time to nail those adv. tickets. For those travelling and looking to stay over, recommend Accor Hotels membership (free) which gives you better than Trivargo etc rates at the Mercure Hotel,  Hull.  Great value good hotel and just a few minutes walk to the venue. Always a very very busy night - the most popular 'soul' night in the Uk for northern classics, Motown, modern & disco plus club soul spread over 3 rooms . If that floats your boat and you ain't tried it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Arguably Hull City Hall as a venue can't be beaten.
