Invitations  - Look on the good side – Silver Blue. By now John had the whole floor full with this classic good feeling 1974 track that just builds and builds – proves it doesn’t have to cost ££££’s to be good. Just what good dj’s should be able to do.

Neo Experience  - Human  – Sahara. Exhuberant Philly track that John Anderson was putting in soul packs in the 70’s. Leon Mitchell project takes Tommy Hunt’s 60s New York classic Beat Ballad - deconstructs - giving it a totally new identity; by adding lush Philly-esque strings… specifically to fuel David Simmons magnificent vocal powers to greater things.. Rafa Floor filler.

Tut Sutton – I can feel the tears – USA Both sides played in one set.... superb

Four Coins  - Maybe she’s right  - Lan-Co - Seamless vocals weave their way through this string propelled dancer that just when you think the production has peaked,  it just keeps climbing higher. Staggeringly superb! And incredibly RARE!

Martineques  - If you want to call me  - Me-O. This track has been a Newton Aycliffe favourite for about 15 years now and never fails to impress me... Love the harmonising vocals, cha cha beat and crossed rhythms.

Sophisticates  - I really hope you do – Underground sounds.

Tut Sutton – No Appreciation – USA. Top drawer rare Northern soul

Bobby Womack – California Dreaming – Minit

Phew, what a set, Moody, Beat up, Harmonising perfection, expensive, cheap, you got the lot. Many thanks to John for all of his efforts but we’re not finished yet – Paul Ackley’s last hour to finish us off well and truly....

Appointments – I saw you there – De-lite

The Sweets – Something about my baby – Soultown

Donald Thomas  - Calling me home  - PMRC

David Thomas – I’ll always need you (by my side) – Prime.

I don’t need to blither on about the quality of all of the records listed above but we did have one of our best soul nights at The Rafa Club Newton Aycliffe and it was all thanks to the dj’s – John Manship, Paul Ackley, Dave Eyley, Liam McGannon and promoters hidden in the background but most of all down to the people who support the club from all over the UK.

Next month we have Nige Grice, John Parker and Colin Denham giving you the best the UK has to offer in rare Northern Soul. If you haven’t tasted the Rafa Club then come along for an intoxicated night of soul music..... you’ll love it. 1st Saturday night of every month.

Thanks for reading folks and thanks for the support.

Paul, Ian, Kev & Paul

Had a great night at the RAFA, it was brilliant to see it so busy, as well as the music being good, great catching up with friends have not seen for ages as well as our usual Bishop crew. I thought there was a good mix of music, I love my 60s so plenty of early sounds played
