Event Information

Please note: We had originally booked Dave Rimmer for this date but he has recently had an operation date come through for the day before so has had to pull out.

This night is dedicated in memory of “Prin” Ian Prinsen who we lost tragically & unexpectedly in August at the age of 47.

Prin and his wife Jo had put on “Steppin’ Up” together 4 times a year since September 2012, the nights reflecting their love of both the soul and mod scenes. Jo has decided to go ahead with the November 19th date they had booked, with help from friends, in Prin’s memory.

Just a quick update – great news! Hitsville Chalky (an old mate since his mod days) will be joining the DJ line-up for this special night in tribute to Prin. Big thanks to Chalky for his support –he’ll be there early & prerecording his radio show (as he has to be elsewhere later on) – so even more reason to arrive early & hit that dancefloor early folks!  Also looking forward to welcoming back our friend Scooby from St Georges Soul Club and to friends Jason Banner and Brendan Phillips joining me on the decks spinning stormin’ soul, uptempo R&B, rare motown & ‘60’s mod tunes in Prin’s memory.

Looking forward to Steppin’ Up…with friends
For those who have asked me about hotels and for anyone planning to travel here’s a bit of info for you – Bournbrook & Selly Oak Social Club (13a Hubert Road, B29 6DX) is just off the A38 Bristol Road close to Aldi. It’s a short walk from Selly Oak Rail Station which is served by trains from Birmingham New Street. Nearby Bus stops are 61, 62, 63, 64 & 76 (buses from Birmingham). Its approx. 2 ½ miles from Birmingham City Centre where there are several Travel Lodge’s & other budget hotels & there is a Premier Inn on the Hagley Road (approx. 2 ½ miles from Selly Oak & 2.2 miles from the City Centre). There is also B&B accommodation nearby approx. ½ mile from the venue at the Woodbrooke (seems to get good reviews on Trip Advisor) at the Quaker Study Centre on Bristol Road. Bournbrook & Selly Oak Social is a great venue, with a massive sprung wooden dancefloor in a lovely art deco influenced room.
