Soulboyslim 236 Posted June 5, 2016 (edited) RAFA CLUB NEWTON AYCLIFFE – SERIOUS SHADES OF SOUL SOUL NIGHT – 4th JUNE 2016 – SPECIAL GUEST DJ: JOHN PHILLIPS FROM THE GOLD COAST (AUSTRALIA) FORMER Doncaster Soul boy... This was a poignant soul night as it was exactly one year ago when our dear friend and Northern Soul fan Phil Joss was last with us. Last June we had a great soul night at the Rafa Club with “Jossy” being first in the club and last out as usual and loving every minute of it. Sadly 12 hours later he had died due to a motorcycle accident. We all paid our respects to Phil at the Big Club in Newton Aycliffe where an All-Dayer had been organised by his wife Lydia, family and friends with a sell out 275 ticket only celebration of Phil’s life. We never forget Phil at the Rafa Club as he was such an avid supporter and every soul night at the Rafa Club is a celebration to him. R.I.P. Phil Joss. On with show as the saying goes: Our special guest DJ was John Phillips formerly from Doncaster and more from him later. First in the club as usual when they’re here were Peter, Jackie and friends from Wolverhampton followed by Geoff, Margaret, Helen and Tom from Clitheroe / Burnley plus the gang from Carlisle – who apparently are all called George??? A bit of a slow burner due to the All-Dayer one mile down the road but the placed filled up respectfully for all dj’s at the club.
