Couldn't have asked anymore, wow, what a great turnout for the Roots Room, absolutely rammed, Many thanks to all the DJ's (see playlists) and to the people who continually come and support the room. Got no idea how the other rooms faired for numbers and why would I have, just dare not leave the Roots Room, so many tunes, so much going on, such a great vibe. My remit is the Roots Room and this night just topped the lot, many many many thanks to everyone, now onwards and upwards, next Roots Room at Norwich alldayer 20th August hosted by the legend himself Billy Whizz, then it's October 1st at the Manhattan with the best band in the North, 'The 5:15's '  Bring it on

Another impressive Charity Soul Alldayer to fund the Professor and his team researching a sustainable cancer cure. The Charity Soul team work tirelessly and professionally for no remuneration so nothing but admiration for what they are achieving and edging ever closer to this years' £50k target.

Saturday at The Manhattan was a trifle warm , saw a traditionally busy Northern Room and great to see Billy Whizz and John Muir, all the way from Norwich,  behind the decks with some quality oldies. Also caught Sammy Seaman & Stu Richards double decking - they seemed to instinctively know what their DJ partner was playing or going to play and how to complement - great ovo.
Nice to also see Di Layton make her debut in the 'modern' room.
As for 'Dekka's Roots Room' although it had a 5.30 start time, prior to that John Muir played an excellent early doors set. As the evening progressed it was busy, very busy and only waned when 30 minutes of continuous dancing became too much for some and 50 or so had to congregate outside (despite the aircon in the Roots Room ) in the fresh air or for a smoke, or in the adjacent bar which also served tasty food, including there now legendary chilli.
Neil Lee's 'Gettin to the Point ' Summer Special certainly delivered with his residents Mark Thomas and John Drake plus guest Danny Coates and Lee Miller along with Roots Room residents 'Dekka'  and my self privileged to join these guys behind the decks. Musically a million miles away from the more commercial /populist 'mod' sounds on the Northern scene and certainly found favour - with the numbers attending from far and wide, many 'suited and booted' and on the dance floor.
From a personal point of view, Lee Miller's set (particularly the never previously heard by me acetates) and Mark Thomas's sets just pipped it, but a close run thing as all the djs pulled out all the stops with vinyl gems.
Well done 'Dekka' for another outstanding 'Roots Room' and Neil Lee for bringing his team and guests for the 'Special'.
Not to be outdone by Neil's Special, the next 'Dekka's Roots Room' at the Manhattan continues to bring some of the best mod djs around - this time from Scotland,  hosted by Brian Cardno (Soul in the Basement, Barrels - Berwick on Tweed) on Saturday 22nd October. Prior to that one, there's something a bit different on Saturday 1st October which includes the 5:15s live
As with all Dekka's Roots Room /Charity Soul events at The Manhattan, there's no obligation discounted adv tickets available.
