One door closes and another one opens......

WOH appear to have found an ideal little replacement for their long time home following its closure without notice! Well done Dave. The Luna Lounge has a good feel.....it needs a wooden floor and maybe another mens' WC but the sound system was really very good. All the DJs played a good mix with a smile and enthusiasm that was rewarded by a busy dance floor.  The guest DJ was outstanding ......and Dave you have been spending on some tunes! 

I read on this site that Walls had moved to a new venue, and noticed Rbman had indicated he planned to go. Cheekily I asked him if he could give me a lift, to which he kindly agreed. He picked me up and we got there about 9ish. Walls Of Heartache was taking place in the basement of a bar which I guess you'd call "trendy". The stairs down to the basement need to be taken with care, at least for me, anyone who has fallen on a flight of stairs will know what I mean. They did remind me of the stairs to the Smersh Bar in bygone days. They sell real ale there  which is a bonus, don't get that often at a venue with soul music.

The basement was a reasonable size with a stage for the DJs and opposite by the entrance a bar, which will be open in the future. There was a dance area, concrete I was told which did worry me a bit, but it was okay to dance on, talc was put down and I found it okay and so did others as the music got people dancing.

The music was a really good mix, including quite a few records that I've not heard for a while. And I don't mean top 500 tunes, more the sort of records I  used to hear when I started going out again in London, e.g. Emperor Of My Baby's Heart, I Just Kept On Dancing, You've Gone, etc. It reminded me a bit of Soul In The City and These Old Shoes. I know Dave and Shaun, I assume the other DJ was Richard. All did sterling work. Shaun got me on the dance floor with Like A Rolling Stone and then Salvation. I did ask him if he thought he was Butch which bought a smile to his face. Feminine Ingenuity was played much to my pleasure, it's one of my favourite records, always gets me on my feet.

We left shortly before the end, about 12.30. Rbman drove me back to Enfield and then I went to bed, felt tires as I'd had two late nights in a row. Thanks Martin for the lift.

I hadn't been to Walls for quite a while, it always coincides with other events but last night was really good. The sound system was excellent and a lesson for some other venues. The clientele clearly were enjoying themselves. London has quite a few Northern Soul nights as opposed to allnighters, but I'd recommend Walls if you like a proper Northern night that doesn't rely on playing the top 500 tunes and digs a little deeper. Well done Dave and Co.
