Best fish & Chips in Whitby ? Generally can't be beaten .

Lots to choose from.  Traditionally we use Trenchers http://www.trenchersrestaurant.co.uk
or where the locals recommend, 'Royals'  in Baxtergate. http://www.royalfisherieswhitby.co.uk/home/
However this time we'll be also trying the new Star Inn the Harbour for a bit of fine dining fish n chips.
Any other recommendations ?

Trenches for us but keep it to yourself or we won't get in, have a great time everybody.

As with most things in life Mick , it's down to the timing .

Looking forward to our catchup and now traditional natter. Guess you'll be spinning a few of your excellent tunes in the Pavilion Market Place again this year ?

Many thanks to Julie and Kev for inviting me back to spin a few tunes for what will be my third year running, very chuffed and very proud of that fact. Also, i'm allowed to play exactly what I want so if you fancy hearing gems from todays Mod scene and my very own Clarence Beat-cluB in York, then why not join me saturday night in the Market Place at 12 midnight.

cheers

It certainly is Derek. In fact from Friday afternoon right through to late Sunday the  Market Place sessions at the Pavillion will be buzzing with fabulous vinyl being played 'freestyle' across the Soul genres - very much djs choice and hosted by John & Julie H . Added to which the record dealers and sales makes it all quite magical . Roll on Friday afternoon.

A superb weekend ... so good to see how this is developing as an event. The coverage of music is as impressive as the quality of the selections, and while I can still wish for a more adventurous policy in the modern room, this year we had some nice surprises ... The Dells' "Your song" as played by Chris Box, Inner City's Frankie Knuckles mix of "Whatcha gonna do with my lovin" played by Steve Woomble, and Phil Kingswood mixing it up with a nice selection of upfront and familiar. Even more adventurous was Julie H who was dropping Kylie Auldist and Mario Biondi's brand new single.

Sean Hampsey announced that this was his final Whitby as a dj, and gave us a fairly jazz-funk heavy set, including Coke Escavedo's I wouldn't change a thing ... appropriate sentiments indeed.

In the main room almost every time I walked in Ginger seemed to be on the decks and there was a good mix of familiar and not so obvious. The floor was constantly busy, and new boy Steve Luigi played some great tunes on the Sunday afternoon.

The marketplace is an amazing concept that should not work at all, but feels like such an essential part of the event - it wouldn't be the same without it. Once again the sound technicians did a great job of ensuring a solid performance throughout, and the jocks went through the spectrum of styles ... special thanks to Mick Perrins for Freddie Hubbard's " You're gonna lose me", so good to hear that played out.

Among the stars of the weekend were The Sams. Sam Evans played solid sets in the modern room, when she wasn't tearing it up on the floor. And her double act with Kev Roberts on Sunday evening was brilliant. Meanwhile Soul Sam just goes from strength to strength, finding new tunes and never losing his appetite and enthusiasm for the music and the people who enjoy it. His modern set on Friday was a masterclass in mixing fresh and unfamiliar with more known classics, while in the marketplace he was in his element, delivering one exciting new find after another and dancing away behind the decks for hours. The Sunday evening session there was a blast, with the other Sam dancing away like crazy. His Sunday afternoon main room set was as always great to hear with lots of less obvious Motown tunes like Edwin Starr's "running back and forth" and Cleethorpes classics.

The closing session on Sunday in the marketplace is a stroke of genius - the number of people dancing away to party classics testifies to that. A big thank you to Kev Roberts for reading my mind and sticking on Hamilton Bohannon's "Let's start II dance", which I haven't heard played out in 30 years - fantastic to dance to that, and all the way through. And great to hear Neil's version of "Rapper's delight", wonderful  Meanwhile Snowy and friends were in the main room rounding things off with the absolutely appropriate "Stoned love" and "Do i love you". Perfect.

One last thing - this is such a friendly event, with a great warm atmosphere. Combine that with the venue and the music and no wonder it's always completely booked. Our tickets for next year were purchased this morning.
