About The Event

BANBURY SOUL CLUB FIRST EVENT OF 2017

Saturday 7th January 2017 - 8pm to 1am
General Foods Sports and Social Club.

Castle Quays

Banbury

Oxon

OX16 2PA

Our 13th Anniversary in November was the last event at the Trades & Labour Club.

The T & L Members informed the Committee they want to use the Club all year round.

We moved to the Labour Club because we were told General Foods Sports & Social Club was closing down under the new Banbury Quayside development.

Well that has changed and General Foods Club is not closing.

So fortunately not only did we get invited back but the timing couldn't have been better.  :D

But now the challenge is to fill this large venue.

From January 2017 there will be four nights of Northern Soul and Motown promoted by Banbury Soul Club.

The biggest change will be the music policy.

All events for 2017 will be strictly "Oldies" only.

The music played will now be one hundred per cent Northern Soul ‘Oldies’ and Motown.

Over the years our music policy has always been across the board.

But between the DJ’s they have an amazing collection of original Northern Soul Oldies, which they never get the chance to play.

So they are very excited and really looking forward to playing all your favourites from 8.00pm to 1.00am, non-stop!

There will be no lesser knowns or underplayed at the beginning: it will be ‘full’ on from 8.00pm.

The play list will be  your favourite sounds from the Golden Age of Northern Soul and the Classic Clubs where they were discovered.

The Torch, The Twisted Wheel, Catacombs, Blackpool Mecca , Wigan Casino, Yate, Cleethorpes and Stafford.

So make sure you get there early to get your seats.  Because you will love and be surprised at the vast collection of tunes the DJ's have.

We will also be bringing in like-minded guest DJ’s to complement our selections.

So we now need all your help to promote the new venue and change of music policy.

Oldies nights are very popular and we want to get the word out.

As a Club we take no money apart from running expenses.

We are very proud that over the years your £5’s have gone to local charities and some overseas charities as well.

We are a non-profit making club and we put the nights on for everyone to have a great time.

Here are the 2017 dates for the Banbury Soul Club Northern Soul Oldies Nights:

Saturday 7th January 2017

Saturday 1st April 2017

Saturday 2nd September 2017

Saturday 4th November 2017 – 14th Anniversary

Pay on the door is still only £5.00.

Dance Floor.jpg

Just look at this place for a venue.   Stage, separate Bar area with space for Record Sales ,
Smoking veranda overlooking the Canal, acoustic ceiling for top sound quality
and a "dance floor to die-for !"       What more do you want ?

See you all at the "GO-GO".

Cheers...............               Tom.

Saturday January 7th new start for us (again) Lol....

Really, pleased to be back at General Foods.  Great news they are keeping the building and endorsing it in the new canal development!  Clearly, one of the best dance floors in the scene, and acoustically the room is fantastic.

A new event running alongside our Oldies Nights in the summer months.  These will be in a smaller licenced venue with a small dance area.  And they will be run on Sundays 3.00pm to 8.00 pm.  This is where we will be playing new finds, lesser known, back of the box, and 70's.  These will be run between May and August.  Keep you informed nearer the time.

So back to Saturday night, look forward to seeing you all again in this great venue.  Hopefully will play a few tunes in memory of the late Charles Frost our very good friend.

Hopefully you'll come along and support us and have a great night.

Keep it Soulful, keep it danceable,

Charlie Mc

Yes, I need to see you Len about those Embankment Club "ear-worms" that keep surfacing !
You know the ones; now hard to find or very expensive.
And you reply on my WANTS - "great 45 !"     Yes, I know it is; that is why I want it.

Well folks, we're all up for it tomorrow.  Records all sorted....

Don't forget will be starting at 8.00pm sharp.  No early doors stuff, straight into it!

Loads of free parking in the venue.  But much bigger free car park opposite the venue!

Look forward to seeing you all,

Charlie Mc

The day is with us and we'll be setting up in a while.

We'll have Dave Gilkes DJing 9-10 for us.    Superb taste in Soul Music.

Residents will be covering the rest.

Looking forward to a "packer" tonight to kick off the New Year here @ BSC.

See you all "at the Bar".

Cheers.................             Tom.

Last night did not disappoint back @ G.F. Club.
Great crowd in who were really up for it from the start.
So many faces returning in numbers due to our new music policy and because of this great venue.
Dave Gilkes played a superb set 9-10pm.   Thank you for helping us out.
Residents did what was needed on the decks.
Happy smiley faces all round.    Long may it continue.

See you all again on Sat 1st April for Round Two.

Tom.

Great turn out...........  All really happy to be back at this brilliant venue:).  Couldn't ask for a better turn out from everybody who supported us.

As Tom said, looking forward to Saturday 1st April, Round 2.

Thanks for the positive feed back folks.

The only sad thing about the night, is that our dear friend Charles Frost, who sadly passed away was not there to share it with us.  He was so excited that we were coming back to General Foods, God Bless you my friend.

Keep it Soulful, keep it danceable,

Charlie Mc
