About The Event

Original stone-walled cellar- bar venue (1826),Lounge bar(chill-out )decks and main room decks.Music policy 50s to 1966  cut off.OVO.The sounds that pathed the way for the original mid-sixties allnighter soul/mod/r&b scene.Rare video projections.Early soul,r&b,Jamaican r&b,jamaican Ska,Hammond grooves,DooWop,Blues,Ballads.All part of our music policy to be played depending on the nights dj's.Rare and underplayed.Council car park to the rear of the venue (small evening/night charge).Tonights guests are Kev Connellan (Hoochie Coochie Club),Ali Bongo Goby,Steve Yates.Resident djs Steve Longworth,Martin Greene,Allan Swires,Christian Scott,Andrew and Eileen Vasey,Howie Houghton.Pre gig meet at The Tap and Spile pub just around the corner from the venue where tracks from our music policy will be played between 5 and 7.The veue is an early start one with doors opening at 6.45pm then through until the finish 12.15 to 12.30am.Entry by pre-bought ticket (always a sell out with many staying overnight).£4.00.Tickets can be paid by paypal,cheque,postal order with sae or arranged pick up from Jim Penistans "Back to Mono"vinyl shop,Guildhall St,Lincoln.Tickets ,more info.from Glenn 07989717043 or email adlibsoul@yahoo.co.uk or join our Ad-Lib group Facebook page to check us out.

Ali Bongo Goby has had to move her guest appearance to March 2017.In her place we have Brian Cardno (Barrelhouse Berwick-on-Tweed) and Aaron Turner (Bourne).

AdLib - Saturday October 1st

At first it was 60's pop and Tamla Motown that got me into music, and then in the summer of 1966, 60's soul was added to the mix.

...

In the mid 70's I got a residency, DJ'ing on Friday and Saturday at Caesar's Palace, a Mecca owned venue, in Berwick upon Tweed. Music in the main was 60's and 70's soul, Northern and disco. From 1978 to 1989 I ran a mobile disco playing in venues around Northumberland

I started putting on the soul nights in the fantastic basement at Barrels Alehouse in Berwick around 2000, and R&B gained a foothold after meeting Dicka, Deka, Geoff Bell and Steve Hiscock amongst others around at the late John Powney's house. Soul at the Barrels has hosted some of the country's top DJ's who always comment on the great atmosphere and the music policy of 60's soul, R&B, mod and ska sounds. We're temporarily in Tweedmouth Bowling Club due to "noise abatement" problems at the Barrels - but we'll be back !

From 2008 to 2011 I also promoted, with friends Stan Evans and Pete Everett, the Berwick weekenders, featuring many guest DJ's and club specials from the Hideaway, Glasgow Friday Street and others.

I also promoted "Soul in the Suburbs" in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, with my friend Frank McCue, and have played DJ spots recently at Dekka's Roots Room (Leeds Charity Soul), The Sink in Liverpool, Beatin' Rhythm in Newcastle and Nowt but Northern in Glasgow.

I'm really looking forward to playing some of my records for the crowd at the AdLib on October 1st.

Remember we have a pre-gig meet at the Tap and Spile pub (2 mins.from our venue)from 5pm to 7pm where tracks are played from our music policy.A great chance to meet up before the main event !!
