Hopefully ive now recovered enough to string more than two sentences together!
I always start with a massive thanx to all those who supported us but this time its a MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE THANX!!! With so much on this year we decided to have a summer break with the intention of coming back with a BANG of a niter and I think we did that,a great night.
We had some travellers arrive at the club before we did but having set all the projections up Friday night it didn't take long to get the discs spinning and by the time our first guest dj came on the decks we had over 90 in,the 65 free cds we made had gone,somehow I didn't get one so good job we had a test play in niccis car before the night so I can run a bootleg copy off for myself :-).As alfie was playing the people kept coming aswell as bristol we had people from all over the country too many places to mention or even remember at the moment and they were already on the floor and building up the heat and atmosphere and by the time the doors closed at 12 we had almost 200 in and that's despite about 20 regulars missing for various reasons,work,holidays.weddings and other events both here and abroad.To all those who were missing,you were missed! hope to see you back at the funky soul prison soon.
So the guest djs,what can you say? BRILIANT! A mix of rnb,northern and funky soul,classics and stuff id never heard,an exclusive from Greg Belson which wont be released till next year and what a BANGER it is! and I don't think I heard any repeat plays instead of Des Parker starting and finishing his set with a great alternative mix of eddie holmans version of shes wanted which you wont hear off anyone else and there were no complaints there.All the djs Alfie Linney Desmond ParkerStuart Mobbs Danny Price Greg Belson and David Abbott were spot on so thank you guys you did exactly as wed asked,hoped and knew you would.By the time I came on for the last set at 530 the crowd had thinned out,understandbly as it had been so hot and uptempo most of the night but most of those who were there were still on the floor.Hope your legs don't ache too much this morning.
So we will be back on October 7th sadly back to 9-2am but we have another two top guests from the north and south to get you dancing Sean Courtney returns after a few years all the way from Glasgow with his quality rnb dancers and from Portsmouth we have Steve Csordas who has played top northern and funky edged sets at various places including the gloucester,rugby and soulfunktion niters.Hope to see some of you back for that.
To those who have already asked if we get the chance to do another nighter hopefully it will be for our 10th birthday which is on our monthly date of the first Saturday in febuary but with dates already appearing on that weekend watch this space,we will confirm as soon as we can.
Thanx also again to the bar staff and management of fiddlers both on the night and behind the scenes for all their hard work in making this possible,you are appreciated.
