Gis Southworth 21 April 3, 2018 2 of 2 members say helpful 2 / 2 members Share this review Thanks Andrew Z - that really made me laugh. And you're right - a little less seriousness now and then never goes amiss. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did - the whole night that is. 2 Link to review
Professorturnups 250 April 3, 2018 3 of 3 members say helpful 3 / 3 members Share this review Can only endorse what the other guys said. I thought the quality of the music was absolutely superb in both rooms. It was great to hear and dance to so many different sounds in the main room, a lot of thought went into those sets. Matt Sneath totally smashed it with some current biggies and Calvin played his heart out in the last hour. Good to see Sarah Jane added to the line-up. She has some great records and the right attitude! Mark C 3 Link to review
9drewjacko9 95 April 3, 2018 4 of 4 members say helpful 4 / 4 members Share this review It just gets better I could stop there! We arrived a little later than planned and walked into Mr Hinsley part way through his set in the Kenwood Suite....imagine; Bob Hinsley doing the first hour anywhere, that's enough to get the magic going and he didn't disappoint (and neither did the rest of the guys). I have to admit I find it a little difficult to drag myself away from the Kenwood Suite which is simply down to personal taste, but whenever I ventured into Baz Maleadys Modern Room or the Main Hall the quality of music and atmosphere were spot on. Back to the suite and guest Gis Southworth was fantastic - where has he been hiding? I think the answer is in a WWI bomb shelter judging by the tin hat he wore throughout his spot hilarious, sometimes I think we can all take things a little too seriously so his beaming sense of humour was great and he looked like he was really enjoying himself. Andy Dyson added another facet to proceedings with a bunch of tracks I've never heard - I find new tunes harder to dance to but it's great to hear something different so well done Andy . The night was rounded off perfectly by an on-form Robbo (when isn't he) full of his usual infectious enthusiasm. It was great to see the now familiar faces of the Suite regulars and even better to see the younger faces of the scene in all three rooms - we've got to remember that for them almost anything is a potential 'newie' must be fantastic and overwhelming to have all that quality pouring out at you (happy days). Roll on the next instalment and keep up the good work Marcelle. 6 Link to review
Micksmix 2,293 April 2, 2018 3 of 3 members say helpful 3 / 3 members Share this review Another great night at Bury(Berry) Nighter and great to have such positive feedback .On a personal note it's great to be a part of the set up in the Kenwood Suite seeing new faces at every event along with long standing regulars, the word is spreading fast (see Simon, people really do read our verbal meanderings) and countless sound clips haha.I think it was me Martin that played Little Charles "a taste of the good life" glad you enjoyed it. The modern room had another busy night(see Barry's review below) and The Main room was in full flow from the word go, as ever, with the ultimate blend of classic and current spins. Looking forward to my Debut in there in May!! 4 Link to review
Bazm 935 April 2, 2018 3 of 3 members say helpful 3 / 3 members Share this review Got to venture into each room as the night progressed as most of my time was spent in the modern room. The main room was buzzing and got busier as the night went on. Simon Ingham and his collection of 'Soul Reprobates' were mixing and mashing it up in the Kenwood Suite, with some fantastic music being played everytime I wandered in to check on the procedings, (Simon and the guys will be back behind the wheels with some TOP tunage at Culcheth on April 13th if you missed them at Bury) ...Then it was back into the modern room literally for 'Something Else'... We'd missed some of our regulars who were lured by the Liverpool Disco Festival but these were replaced by a host of new faces and some of our hardened regulars who literally dance in that room from start to finish. Props to residents Bill Wildman, Pete Haigh and Barry May who create a continuous flow of Jazzy, funky vibes, Disco edits and pure Soulful dance music for 7 hours, from 10pm till 5am and it's simply UPLIFTING. Just to echo Steve Smith's earlier revue and mention two guys recently lost to friends on the soul scene, Paul Hawkins and Mark Clugston (Lee Vowles now added to that frightningly growing list) and the love and respect shown when records played in their memory...thanks to all Xx Bury Town Hall; total value for money and an absolute MUST for your Soul fix every other month - ROLL ON MAY 4 Link to review

Winsford Soul 15,963 April 2, 2018 2 of 2 members say helpful 2 / 2 members Share this review Oops Forgot to post this review yesterday. Bit more compis mentis today Got there early about 10pm to give my immoral support to Steve doing his 1st ever set at Bury. And was I glad managed to get to listen to a fabulous young lady called Sarah Jane who was so enthusiastic. she played some great records that where completely new to me. then my old mate Steve ( really is old ) graced the decks despite his nerves he played a set of tunes with a bit of something for everyone. Then spent the next don't know how long talking and listening normal nighter rubbish with like minded souls. Heard some top tunes played by the rebrobates that run the Kenwood suite. Stand out record for very personal reasons was Terry Callier. Ordinary Joe ( R.I.P Mark Clugston ) played by the main man Robbo. The night ended to soon with young Calvin playing out with one of my all time favourite records. I still love you. Seven Souls. Brilliant night. Can't wait for the next one. Big thanks to the lovely Marcelle and everyone involved. Steve 6 Link to review
