Well hello my happy bunnies apologies for not posting on here for awhile unfortunately its been a some what difficult couple of months for me .... BUT I'm back so RUN NOW if you so wish  or stay and join in the banter not only will you get the "normal" conversations on Soul .... you get ME who just loves to talk "Fairies and Unicorns" after all life is not just about the pieces of vinyl :wicked: we love to listen to .......  is it ?

Any way with the next instalment of NCS Bury nearly upon us (which will also be our first year at Bury ) I thought I would kick off with introducing our first Guest DJ Phil Broadhurst

Today's DJ profile is of a dj from my past, who I got to hear again recently at Springfield's. Phil will be joining us SUNDAY May 28th 2017 for his FIRST appearance with NCS at Bury.
I also managed to kidnap him and spend sometime just chatting about "Soul" not just the music but all that goes with it, including my passion "The history of Soul and issues around segregation(which is something we tend to forget on the Scene)
He is such a "book of ...knowledge" and if you ever get the opportunity to talk to him PLEASE DO ...

Now over to Phil :

Phil Broadhurst
I started collecting soul and Motown records in 1968, after a few years of Beatles and the mod type pop.
Started djing in 1973. Getting a residency in a local pub in 1976. Playing Northern and Jazz Funk on different nights.
I Started to promote our own venue in Little Hulton in 1990/91. From there I had my first big break djing at the Tony' s Empress Ballroom in Blackburn Allnighters.
Friends of mine were promoting Allnighters at Droylesden then at Hyde Town Hall and the Bridge Hotel I think it was? near to Bury. I was given a chance to dj at those venues too.
Then with the South Cheshire Soul club Allnighters.
Later on at the Queens Hall Bradford Allnighters. By the mid 90s my girlfriend now my wife and I wanted to buy a house of our own. I did the one thing I have regretted ever since and sold all my rare records to finance the house purchase.
Ever since I have promoted or dj at local soul nights in the area where I live. Currently I help promote a soul night at Farnworth Cricket Club.
3 of my top records phew that a hard one.
3 records that mean a lot to me, because as far as I know I was the first to play them at Tony's are:
The Soul Communicators Just one of those lonely nights Fee Bee.
Rhonda Davis Do you remember Duke
And The Stoppers Come back baby Jubile

Goodness me firstly I cant share anything & now I share "double" sorry didn't know how to delete but hey GREAT SONGS you can listen to twice

There's a bit of a labour of Love going on for me at Bury in putting together A NIGHT OF SOULFUL VOCAL HOUSE, JAZZ FUNK, RARE GROOVE, RETRO FUNK, DISCO EDITS. NU JAZZ, BOOGIE. I say a labour of love, more of a guilty pleasure :wicked:. For years I've loved soulful house music, for me it's just an extension of all the other music I've collected, danced to and listened to, over the years. Now with the help of like minded soulies I have the pleasure of presenting SOMETHIN' ELSE as the modern room at the NCS BURY TOWN HALL ALL-NIGHTERs...So if like me you like or even love soulful uptempo dance music, with a hint of Jazz, Funk, Latin or Disco, then join me, Barry May, Pete Haigh, Paul Hawkins, Bill Wildman, Tony 'TEECEE' Cooney and guests on SUNDAY MAY 28th for SOMETHIN' ELSE ...

Todays DJ profile is of Denny Johnson ....
What can I say about Disco Diva Denny well he is not really a Diva but I like to call him that.
I have only known Denny about 12 year...s & I remember our first meeting at Hitsville (that's when he became my Diva lol) What struck me about Denny (and still does to this day) is his cheeky smile and his appetite for Music he is as passionate behind the decks as he is when he is on the dance floor.
Now over to Denny Johnson

Denny Johnson
1958 vintage, born and grew up in and around Widnes (Lancs). First exposure to soul music was as a 13 year old at our local youth club where some bloke called Brian Rae was doing Tuesday night discos. Somewhere between 16 and 17yrs old I graduated to The Carlton club in Warrington, quickly followed by Wigan Casino all-nighters, Whitchurch all-dayers, Cleethorpes, St Ives, Manchester Ritz and many other odd venues up and down the country, including a flirtation with Jazz funk, before emigrating South Africa in 1981 and thinking that the soul scene was all behind me, so I’d better get on with starting a career and a family. In 1990 I got a job with a South African company that involved lots of overseas travel, mostly back to the UK. With that new job and the advent of the internet, it was just too easy to drop back into the scene.
I emigrated to Perth, Australia with my family in 2000 just as the Northern Soul scene was ramping up in Australia. We still live in Perth but I’m still travelling all over the place, still collecting vinyl and lucky enough to get occasional DJ gigs here and there!
Musical taste is truly across the board, and currently in my play box you’ll find things like:
Eddie Parker – I’m Gone – Awake
Betty Wilson – I’m yours – Dayco
The Poets – Wrapped around your finger – J-2
Nancy Butts – I want to hold your hand – Flaming Arrow
Essex IV -My reaction to you – Wind Mill
Servicemen – Sweet magic – Chartmaker
The Chevrons – Love I love you – Independence
The Scott Brothers – We like girls
Gil Scott-Heron – Willing – Arista
Gloria Scott – A Case Of Too Much Love Making – Casablanca
The Hamilton Movement – She’s Gone – Look Out

One of my all time favs .... there is nothing better then walking into a large room and hearing the first few beats of this .... (for me) spine chilling goosebumps .... what more could you want to get your booty moving ...

I'm being totally selfish ... as I am choosing 3 of Denny's that I love to hear xx

Totally love this don't I Garside lol xx

We're getting closer to next Sundays Bury Town Hall - no other niters on the Sunday so hope you all take the opportunity to join us once more  For those of you that haven't had the chance yet; we've go three rooms to go at so hopefully there'll be something for most tastes throughout the night, I tend to focus on the Kenwood Suite (room 2) as that's where I mostly spend the night - but the Town Hall is a great venue throughout!

Here's a likely spin from me (we like to mix it up), My thanks to Mr Cunliffe for the generous gift :D
