About The Event

THE END feb cd 2017.jpgOF AN ERA… THE LAST SOUL NIGHT…

SERIOUS SHADES OF SOUL – RAFA CLUB NEWTON AYCLIFFE.

FEBRUARY 4th 2017

The last six months has seen numbers dwindle at the rafa club rare soul nights and we’ve decided to pack it all in with a final soul night of February 4th 2017. March 4th would have been our 10th anniversary night so 10 years isn’t bad for us! Unfortunately we have to consider the Rafa Club Association as they pay to put extra bar staff on for us and when numbers are down they make a loss (mind you there has been some great nights when they made ££££’s). They have to think about the future of the club and be able to offer the Saturday nights to others for parties etc.

Paul Ian and Kev would like to thank everyone who’s attended the soul night for their support especially to the travelling DJ’s who more often than not DJ’d for petrol money and loved the place.

The travelling dj’s and local dj’s from the first soul night March 3rd 2007 in order of date, included:

Steve Davidson – our first guest dj 3rd March 2007 and he’s dj’d many times since.

Paul Ackley 3rd October 2009 – Paul then became one of the resident dj’s who then carried the rare soul flag all the way to the end in 2016 when he called it a day – Paul’s play lists were instrumental in attracting other national dj’s to the club and his sets became a buzz throughout the UK. – Many thanks Paul for setting the standard so high most could not better it).

So there it is all above – 10 years at the rafa club – SERIOUS SHADES OF SOUL – who knows where we’ll turn up next and as Ian quoted in the very first newsletter March 3rd 2007 “No Soul = No Happiness”, “Know Soul Know Happiness”.

I  have every newsletter and will be making the last 10 years of Newton Aycliffe into a book of soul memories – call in for a cuppa and reminisce of years and friends gone by.

All the best folks.

Paul, Kev & Ian.

Glad to announce that we have Paul Ackley booked in for the final rare soul night at the Rafa Club on 4th February 2017. Last chance to hear Paul play the rarest of the rare here in newton Aycliffe. People already been in touch from as far away as Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Carlisle and Bedford saying that they are coming for the last night. Hopefully this will be a packer for a great send off.

Regards Paul.

Sad to see my favourite club in the north east come to a close ,but hell yeah ..10 yrs is a big achievement !

Sad for you guys ,the format was right ,but too many clashes and not enough support from the large number of soul fans in our locality !

Will be there to the very end ,seeya a week on Saturday with me box of issues ....I mean tissues :(

DJ times loaded up and as you can see we'll be starting early at 7.00pm (which is when the club opens so that will be tight!) to give all of the travelling / guest dj's a decent time on the decks - we might be able to go past the 12.30am close and extend 'till 1.00am but we'll have to ask on the night. Let's hope the place is full for a final blast....

Sorry not going to make the last R.A.F.A as i will be in France.

Very honoured to have my name amongst some of the finest DJ's around .Everything comes to an end,but a club that has produced some of the finest playlists even more the sadder.

The R.A.F.A. Club set the bar so very high, loved reading the playlists, thinking WOW.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to spin a few for you.

Maz-Oxford.
