As I am sure there will be some lengthy reviews going up I will keep my post brief.

Numbers where actually higher than we had expected as there were 3 Nighters on the same night, alongside an Alldayer on the Saturday, and one today.

So thanks to all that came along, with travelers from Scotland to Bournemouth and all in between it was most certainly an interesting collection of accents coming to the door.

Was great to see new faces there, and welcome back "old" faces.

We are next on Sunday 28th May Bank Holiday Weekend.

We look forward to seeing you there.

What a fun night! I think 'The Kenwood Suite' is doing ok with it's varied styles of SOUL music - Some not so well known tunes played alongside some of our faves to keep a good atmos going - Thanks to all who visited this room.

Great to see more from the Northants area making the trip

See you again on 28th May.

All the best,

Len

P.s - It was 'Elsie Strong'

Enjoyed the night, great spot from Len upstairs room.

Found out though that Mick Howard played my cover version of Pat and the Blenders Just Because. Heard that Trevski gave him a cut of it. I gave Trevski a cut  and a couple of other friends with promises that they would not let anyone else have one. BANG OUT OF ORDER TREV!!!! It was covered up as Margaret Williams. Just for this i will uncover it and here's the link.

Its by a group called Pure gold from Pittsburgh released 2005 on the Dreams CD

I’m sure Karl will agree with this -

To be fair to Mick, I don’t think he would have been aware of it being Karl’s cover up. Although it seems a promise broken, when Mick was given a cut, he should have been told to keep it to himself, and of the story behind it / being Karl’s discovery.

Karl kindly gave me a cut after my 40th Birthday back in 2010, and told me who it was by - I immediately forgot, and I liked that fact! :D

Thanks again for sharing Karl

All the best,

Len

For some reason I can't find the review section so hope it's okay to post here.

When I saw the DJ line up for this nighter I decided I really wanted to go It was to be my first visit to a New Century Soul do, and it won't be my last. I spoke to a friend in Liverpool and she kindly offered to let me stay with her and her boyfriend for the weekend.
We headed to Bury Town Hall and parked just up the road from the venue, something you can rarely do in London. After paying our entrance feel we went into the rare and underplayed room  (the Kenwood Suite) where we stayed for most of the night.

Bob Hinsley opened the night's music, got me on the dance floor with Tell Me Baby and I'm Yours. He was followed by Big Scotty, one of his tunes, Connie Austin's I Made A Mistake, went down extremely well with one of our party. Keith Williams, one half of my hosts, was on next, great medium tempo tunes including Stop Hurting Me Baby. Len took over from Keith and included a couple of my favourites, I Know The Inside Story and Feminine Ingenuity. The music in this room was right up my street.

I went downstairs to the main room and listened to Andy Dyson's set, thanks for playing Milton Wright for me.

I went back up to the Kenwood Suite to see my friends and after dancing to Louis Paul's The Change Will Do You Good we left.

The venue was excellent, and it was great to see so many of my friends and acquaintances there. Well done to the promoters. I intend to put New Century Soul on my calendar.

BURY TOWN HALL - KENWOOD SUITE REVIEW

Thank you for your kind comments re the Kenwood Suite Geoff - you, the punters, are the most important component of the event and it's always great to receive good feedback simply because it helps us decide if we're getting it right (or wrong - we're quite self critical in a +ve way). We had a great night ourselves and look forward to the next instalment in May. Interestingly I had a few queries about Louis Paul - just goes to show; you don't know what you don't know.

Come and say hello :o)

Unfortunately I doubt if I will be at the one in May, I'm having an operation or procedure or whatever they call it and I'll probably be taking it easy for a little while. But I definitely want to come back to this night, enjoyed it very much.
