About The Event

Emerging details ...

Perpignan is a wonderful place to visit, the French Catalan capital with the history, food, wine and culture. The venue is excellent and a few minutes walk from the historic city centre . Then there's the adjacent Pyrenees and fabulous Med coast and close to the Spanish border . Factor in good value/quality hotels including recognisable chains - Novotel , Mercure , Ibis etc and the 'Comfort' and 'Quality' at the station plus travel couldn't be easier with cheap direct budget airline flights (Ryanair & Flybe) or Eurostar and direct tgv from Lille or via Paris .

Laurent from Perpignan, the promoter,  is not on here so has asked pass on the following info  - hence its his words .

An insight into Perpignan .

The only thing perhaps missing for those making a short break to co incide with this Allniter is that the Catalan Dragons aren't at home playing an English club in the Rugby League.

Overview of Perpignan

Bohemians, artists and those with a love of the great outdoors flock to the city of Perpignan to enjoy its unique blend of Catalan and French influences, its stunning geographical location and the endless sunshine that infuses the area with a feel-good ambience. With such a diverse range of things to see and do, its little wonder the city is gaining notoriety as tourist destination for those who want to enjoy a similar city break as you would in Barcelona, without the crowds and amped up prices. Just like its cultural scene, Perpignan’s cuisine is also rich, flavoursome and diverse and makes it a hot favourite with food enthusiasts. If you visit in summer you can expect the city to come alive with entertainment, dining and pretty much everything taking place outdoors, whilst the winter months see a calm settle that makes enjoying all it has to offer just as much of a pleasure.

Restaurants and nightlife in Perpignan

Local cuisine in Perpignan is heavily influenced by its Catalan roots, and as a result dishes such as garlic snails, richly stuffed sausages and salty hams are to be found at every turn. Take advantage of the city’s sunny weather and enjoy al fresco dining at any one of the brasseries and authentic eateries that pepper the city streets, with the chefs at L’assiette Catalane masters of traditional fare and Casa Sansa offering an exciting menu served in a bustling dining area. The city’s nightlife undoubtedly reaches its peak during the summer months, but all year round it’s possible to drink in style, especially around Place de la Loge. Head to Café Republique for drinks with locals in the know, or dance the night away at La Habana Bodéguita where cocktails are served alongside salsa music.

Shopping in Perpignan

Located in the city centre, Rue des Anges or Rue Alsace Lorraine have a plethora of boutiques such as Celini, offering a wide range of luxury pieces and designer clothing. For a place that suits every budget make a trip to the famous Galleries Lafayette department store, situated on Place de la Résistance. Here you’ll find four floors filled with shops selling fashion, beauty and lifestyle items. Elsewhere, Rue Paratilla is always a hit with foodies, and bargain hunters won’t fail to enjoy the flea market which takes place every Sunday on Avenue Palais des Exposition, or the art market, every first Saturday on Allées Maillol. In terms of souvenirs or trinkets that sum up the city, your best bet is to take home handcrafted pottery or textiles from The Maison Quinta on rue Grande des Fabriques Perpignan, that take inspiration form the city’s rich and colourful Catalan history.

Events and attractions around Perpignan

Kick off your trip with a visit to Palais des Rois de Majorque - 'The Palace of the Kings Of Majorca' is arguably Perpignan’s most famed monument and what’s left of its battlements paints a rich historical picture, whilst one of the excellent guided tours is well worth doing to delve deeper. Other buildings of interest include Cathédrale St-Jean and Casa Xanxon – one of the only gothic houses preserved in the city. If museums are more your thing then book in a trip to Centre de Sculpture Romane for amazing art history or Le Castillet for traditional folklore tales. If you’re suitably cultured out than never fear, as adrenaline junkies will also find plenty to amuse them with skiing, water sports and challenging hiking trails easily accessible.
