Gutted to hear this news. Lowton has been getting busier each month and always a great night and worth the journey over there. They can take the venue away from us but never the memories. Will be sad another place has had to close but hopefully we can do  Lowton proud and go out in style.

Bloody disgusting  they wouldn't give us one last night to bid farewell to such a great venue. Think all the regulars and those who have been over the years will be gutted by their decision. Hope you find another venue to carry on the fabulous work 😊

IMPORTANT UPDATE ANNOUNCEMENT - It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that the owners of LOWTON CIVIC HALL, our 'Home' for the past 21years have now decided to close the venue WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, therefore there will be NO LAST NIGHT on August 11th.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your support over the years and the love and friendship we've all shared because of LOWTON, it will be sorely missed...

That's a total lack of respect on their part, you must be gutted mate. Had loads of great nights over the last 20 years and yeah it will be sorely missed by many, many people.See you tonight at Pemberton!!

That is very sad news and goes against this quote in the local paper....

"As part of the process the council took steps to ensure that new deal would mean the halls would retain community use and that the new operators provide the right level of resources to guarantee the future upkeep and maintenance of the venues. The deals also came with a promise to honour existing bookings."

Unfortunately these big company's are only interested in a quick profit and have  no intention of keeping the building  for use by the local community.

Lowton.  Thanks for the memories.  Had the pleasure of going the very first soul night. Even got to DJ  there. Massive thanks  to everyone who has been involved with the place over the 20 odd years it's been going. Was hoping to get there next week to say goodbye.  Sad. It won't happen

Very sad news Baz, for my part; thanks for your recent (and successful) efforts give Lowton a boost - the Anniversary night was a real stonker and Legends gigs worked really well. I had the pleasure to DJ at Lowton a great deal in the main room during the 90's (thank you Dave Holt and Kev) and more recently in the back room with Robbo (a legend himself) and the various quality guests........great memories and thanks to all

Very sad news to hear about Lowton, was getting ready for next Friday. The nights we have had over the years have been outstanding. Think it has been as important to the Northern scene in the 90's as Wigan was in the 70,s. I would like to thank Kev,Julie.Dave Holt, Paul Baldwin, Billy , and most recently Barry, and all the DJ's over the years too numerous to mention.

Thanks for the memories

Steve

Really sorry to hear this. I, and I'm sure a lot of soulies, were hoping to see Lowton out with a bang. Had some great nights down there right from the very first one. Memories of trying to find a place to park the car before joining the queue to get in. Anniversary singles, the broom cupboard, the modern room, the sweat filled main room and the no more room in the record bar. A fantastic night that'll never be forgotten. 21 years eh, where did that go then!!

Thanks for the memories

My 1st ever soul night! - my Dad took me to the closing down night (1 of many!) In 98/99 when I was 15. Since then it was always the highlight of the month - even had my wedding reception there! I was a regular between 2000 and 2004/5ish when the place was REALLY booming with 3 rooms (including the Rhythm and Blues pantry right down the corridor) I've always gone back whenever I can. The place will hold memories for me, my Brother Phil, Dad David and his Brother Ian forever. No Golborne Catholic Club, no Lowton Civic Hall....sadly it may soon actually be over for me

Sad news indeed, had some very special times at Lowton, not been as much lately as I once did, but the memories will always be there,

I'm starting to feel like I'm the jinx, this is the 2nd long established major event that i have played at this year (along with Brighouse) that has subsequently closed down, either on the night or shortly afterwards :(:(

Seriously though it's a sad sign of the times I suppose

Hi Keith The venue has closed with basically a days notice. Was schgeduled for the end of the year but once contracts exchanged with the developer buyers all bets (and bookings) were off V Sad
