Well that was a wonderful celebration of all that is sacred about the British Rare Soul Scene ie the people, the music and the sheer enthusiasm and commitment of like minded people who wanted to celebrate the most impressive period of the UK Scene. How many dos can you hear DON PARKER TWICE yes I say twice and more impressive than that next to records like the Parliaments dont be sore all adding to a truly brilliant atmosphere.

It was wonderful to see everyone and talk absolute bollocks we left a little merry but very well behaved lol and talked about the night late into Sun Morning, talking through the sounds. All the djs were on point that was an absolute given and we will always support Crumpy Soul it is the real treasure within a sea of mediocrity and long may it continue.

Top quality soul music as ever at Grumpy Soul everything from The Impressions "you've been cheating" to top end rare stuff and everything in between. Given the number of events on(when isn't there) it was a great turnout ,testament to the quality of the event!! Thanks to Phil T for this, one of many standout tracks

I'd just like to apologize profusely for not knowing who Frank Wilson was and for throwing my reading glasses at the decks !

There's a thread somewhere here on SS talking about the state of the scene and debating it's demise........as long as I can turn up at Grumpy and have a great night, top notch music and meet such genuine folk then all that miserable pessimism pales away...

Keep it up guys and gals ❤️

To qoute Gene Toones "What more do you want" ......

My first visit to Grumpys certainly ticked all the boxes, When DJ's have the experience & depth in playlists it shines through almost like weaving a web of styles, tempos & reflecting personal taste,

Well all the guys (& Joan) did the business ..... Thanks for restorin my faith!

My late (& much missed) pal John Lewis would often say jokingly "Bloody DJ's all they do is put records on" but of course when done well it's much more than that .....So take a bow Grumpys and long may it continue.

Firstly a complaint.  I was 40 minutes later than planned getting to grumpy soul.   Some dimwits decided to have a crash on the M60 nr Stockport causing it to close.

It was grumpy soul at its best from the smile at the desk on arrival to the smile on my face as I left. Musically everything is played by such a enthusiastic bunch that its infectious and you can't help but feel good.  Great to catch up with the lads from the North East :hatsoff2:and all the usual suspects, to many to mention by name.  Looking forward to next year's shenanigans already.

You know you are in for a good night when you have to park way down the street. Ten past nine and the place was packed, so pleased for Phil (especially after the week or so he has had) and Joan.  The records were as usual top notch, rarities, cheapies, acetates and everything in between!! Lots of top folk in attendance, enjoyed chatting, catching up with some I don't see enough of and those I see more frequently, reminiscing and putting everything to rights.

Thanks to all who gave me cards (and Joan for the badge), the birthday wishes and the drinks, love you all.

Roll on the next one!

I don't care, it's the biggest five stars ever! What an amazing night that was, thank you to each and everyone one of you who made it so. The room was packed out with new faces and our never miss-ers. I would go so far as to say our busiest night yet with travellers from Scotland, Yorkshire, London, North East and everywhere in-between. DJs were more than on point (thanks all of you) as was the sound system (awesome work Pip)!

No future dates as yet but there will be three next year and we will post as soon as we get chance to have a look at the calendar.

Thanks again guys!

Another great opportunity to spread more good news about a great event, I can't resist. My first time at Grumpys, greeted by 2 smiling ladies and some chocolate, am I entering heaven? DJs were on top form and the array of sounds was great including, classic oldies, obscurities , Stafford monsters and 1 offs with a good progressive feel to it. If you were'nt dancing you were talking about what was being played or singing along, great stuff. Very friendly and enthusiastic folk from far and wide from County Durham to the Midlands. Its a great night with stonking music and a great atmosphere. Nice records on sale for sensible money as well.  Well worth a visit.
