This one certainly appeals, a new Weekender in the centre of Dumfries ....which has great transport links for those travelling ....

‘Market town on the Solway Firth, its residents are known as Doonhamers. The River Nith runs through Dumfries, a former port and centre for tweed which has a population of just over 30,000. The town is a popular tourist destination and in 1997 was voted as the Best Place to Live in Britain.’

Thanks for that post Andy. For those unaware of the town or area, there is plenty to do and see, depending on your cultural tastes. If you don't fancy the Saturday afternoon session, the Solway coast is only a twenty minute drive away, ruined abbeys, castles and you might even get a Queen of the South home fixture!

Anyone wanting any info on the town, area or whatever, just message me.

Good music and a good time awaits.

Sounds wonderful . It’s an area we have never visited . Hopefully there are also some vinyl record shops  in the locality ?

There is one Andy, but not sure if you would find anything of interest.

I kick started the event with Kev and the hotel owner, so have a real interest in trying to make it a success.

I know it is still a long way off, but as I said in the previous post, if you or anyone who is hoping to attend have any questions or whatever, just ask.

Great initiative . I’m sure once word gets out there’s going to be lots of interest and hopefully will become a yearly event .

Just realised we can combine with getting there via one of the great train journeys of the world - the spectacular and scenic Settle and Carlisle line.

All being well, it could become a regular fixture on the soul calendar.

The hotel is a mere five minute walk from Dumfries train station with other accommodation nearby once the venue hotel is fully booked.

Pity it is a year away.

Yes indeed Jeff . Has all the makings of a great Weekender . Something new . Venue/hotel looks good and Dumfries as an easily accessible location, ideal . A fair few from Yorkshire already committed to making the trip .

Cairndale Hotel accommodation sold out - but plenty of other options for those staying over in the town .

Not sure if the Cairndale is sold out Andy. Anyone wanting to stay at the venue, give them a 'phone. There are other options available nearby and some are staying at the Premier Inn which is about a five minute drive away, with a Travel Lodge another 200 yards further on. Anyone needing any info re. the event, venue, town, surrounding area, just send me a DM and I will be happy to help.

That’s great news Iain - I’ll pass that ‘heads up’ on . Our friends checked the hotel availability on line which showed ‘no availability ‘ so guess all rooms have been reserved for Weekender attendees only 😊hence I’ll suggest they ring the hotel direct and mention  ‘soul weekender ‘ .

Right then, just to confirm. For anyone who is still considering coming to the Dumfries Weeekender there are still a few rooms available at the Cairndale Hotel where the event is being held, as I was in at the hotel this morning. The Hotel website is showing no rooms available, but all rooms have been put aside for people attending the Weekender, so should you want to book a room simply phone the hotel direct and say that you want to book for the Weekender.

The hotel is minutes from the town centre and less than five minutes from the train station. It is also an easy to get to by road.

As said previously. Just DM me if you need any further info on anything. Hope to see you all there.

Under a week until the Dumfries Motown and Soul Weekender. Tickets have sold well and only a few remain, so looking good, as does the dj line up and of course the guest appearance of Ronnie McNeir. There are also only two,or three rooms left at the hotel and anyone wanting to stay there should phone the hotel direct. Other guest houses and hotels within easy walking distance are either full or again with only the odd room available.

Anyone wanting any further info, either on where to stay, how to get there, or whatever, just send me a DM and I will help you out.
