Just came across this...I think it was penned by the late Dave Turner (RIP) from Lincolnshire......a top lad and staunch enthusiast of CO72 from the get go...

Brings a lump to lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.

In a place called Tunstall, near Stoke-on-Trent

A very special club, that I did frequent

By road or rail, we all made our way there

How we got home well we just didn't care

Because to dance all night, was our thing

To Sam and Kitty, or "Shingaling"

The Kingspinners played, the whole night through

Eddie Parker, The Shakers and "I Still Love You"

One week there would be, a brand new sound

The next it was yours, for just a pound

Hoagy Lands, Rose Battiste, and Nolan Chance

Roy Hamilton and Little Caesar, made everybody dance

The Torch fans danced, the night away

Showing off the steps, they practiced each day

Some sliding and spinning, others seemed to flaot around

These were the very best dancers, there were to be found

I've Been Hurt "Landslide", and "He Who Picks a Rose"

"Rat Race" "Thumb a Ride", the list just grows

"Personally" "I'm Standing", "Crying Over You"

"Angel Baby" "One in a Million", and "What Would I do"

Junior Walker, Bob and Earl, and Doris Troy

Fontella Bass, Edwin Starr, they were all a joy

But When "Live at the Torch", was recorded by Major Lance

It was one night there wasn't, any room to dance

Each morning all too soon, when it was time to go

Jimmy Radcliffe rang out loud, to finish off the show

As the soul fans made, their way out of the door

They all knew that they, would be back for sure

When I look back on the Torch, the thing that stands out

I feel honoured to have been, of this I have no doubt

The Golden Torch may be, 35 years gone

But in my heart, The Torch lives Right On!!

A nice comment from an enthusiast.. made a few years ago...sorta sums the event up

CLASS OF 72 the #1 SOUL EVENT of the year, I really can't think of any soul night that has been on in the lat 12 months, that come close to this event, the atmosphere alone is authentic to the year, the people are the real hardcode brothers & sisters, and for those of you who were to young to go to the TORCH, if you this event, you will be baptised in NORTHERN SOUL & Metermorphasised into a soulsters a member of the IN-CROWD, by the way of osmosis, so much so you will try and bottle the SPIRIT of SOUL on SPOON TO TAKE HOME, If this was a ALL-NIGHTER all the soul events would be empty and in STOKE you would see SOULSTERS DANCING IN THE STREET WITH THE PEOPLE THEY LOVE TO MEET,
IF YOU ARE AWARE OF A BETTER SOUL NIGHT, PLEASE LET ME LAUGH IN YOUR FACE, RIGHT ON FROM ME

We're in October...and CO72 is nearly upon us...Paul Donnelly Malc Burton and myself are really excited at hosting this... the 10th and final CO72 .....we get together once a year, and its here where we meet old friends and and make new ones.. ...and...well...we have an absolute ball !!!....this year will be NO different plus with the added value of a different venue ..which suits this type of event down to a (Willie ) tee

2019 of course .. I shall be doing something very similar ...only with different promoters....and am sure we'll still have the pleasure of those 'old f*rts Malc and Paul to help us celebrate and raise funds for charity as well

The recent thread about the UTJ allnighter in Crewe reminds me that our CO72 event covers music from that era...I know many of us/you went to that venue(showing my age but I went before the nighters lol).....so we playing music of the 'era' incorporating Cats, Torch, UTJ and many other clubs up and down the country at the time...
