Very encouraging first attempt at something a bit more ambitious at this amiable venue. Some really nice long-term soulies there more or less from the off, with lots of catching up going on.

I did the second room from 8 through 10 (a little after actually) and this is more or less what I played:

Jean Plum - Here I go Again.

Lew Kirton - Heaven in the Afternoon (instr).

Lamont Dozier - I aint Playin.

Stan Ivory - Come Live with Me.

Al Johnson feat Jean Carn - I'm Back for More.

Cory Blake - How can I go on without you?

Dells - It's all up to You.

John Gary Williams - Whole damn world gone crazy - tell me about it.

Flowers - For Real.

Silk - Can't stop turning you on.

Anthony White - Stop and Think it Over.

Harold Melvin - Wake up Everybody.

Archie Bell - Don't let love get you down.

Bobby Womack - How could you Break my Heart, Harry Hippy.

Staples - Trippin on your Love.

Jesse James - If you want a Love Affair.

Beloyd - Get into your Life.

Gloria Scott - Too much Lovemaking.

Ashford and Simpson - Top of the Stairs.

Dramatics - Watcha see is what you get.

John Edwards - Tin Man.

George Jackson - Aretha Sing One for me.

Aretha - Oh no not my Baby (it ain't rocket science).

Barbara Acklin - Here is a Heart.

World Famous Marvin Medley (time constraints knocked it down to two again) - God is Love (single version)/ Darling you're Wonderful.

Eloise Laws - Love Factory.

Chilites - When Temptation Comes.

George Benson - Affirmation.

Side Effect - Keep that same old Feeling.

Angie Stone - No More Rain in this Cloud.

Walter Jackson - Uphill Climb to the Bottom.

I normally get to moan about playing more northern than I prefer, but tonight it was too much modern, which is a step in the right direction (although there was northern more or less all day in the main room, as well as some in the second room, so there was really no need for me to play northern).

A middle aged couple came up to me and told me they were blown away by the music and asked where else I play. Thinking they were old soulies, I held up a CD and told him I don't play vinyls, but he not being a 'soulie,' looked at me as if I were mad. I told him some people scarper when you play CDs and he looked at me as if they're mad.
