About The Event

Following the success of the inaugural events in July, Its ‘Dotties Soul Sessions #2’ with an afternoon chill out session and Northern Soul and Motown on Saturday night. 

 

‘Dotties’  is situated in Pickering town centre , hidden away in a delightful mews location and a fabulous and unique  licenced 5ts /6ts styled  Italian coffee bar /cafe /gelato parlour. ‘

 

To be fair it isn’t large inside or out , by any stretch of the imagination or reality, but perfectly formed. Heaven in the sheltered courtyard, particularly during the warmer months whist inside captures that 5ts/6ts age with the decor and decoration. ‘Dotties’ is ideal for the soul sessions and certainly something rather unique, different and appealing .....

Saturday 8th Sept sees the afternoon chill out session from 1pm - 7pm in the courtyard.

For the evening, it’s inside and upstairs for the dance floor and Northern Soul & Motown oldies,  8pm- midnight. 

 

(The afternoon chillout session on Sunday 9th September has been cancelled).

 

For afternoon session chillout, upstairs will also be open catering for all weather eventualities.

 

Licenced bar, soft drinks, Italian coffee, teas, gelato throughout.  Food until 4.30 pm Sat. 

All sessions (Chillout and Saturday night) are free admission.

Susan Spiby - Wade (Soul Unique, Fusion Soul etc). 

Ian ‘Geordie’ Johnson (‘Soul or Nothing’, The Friendship Pure Soul, Metrodome Modern Room etc ).

Mark Etheridge (Hamburg Soul Weekenders , Bridlington Northern Soul Weekenders etc ). 

Gary Smith ‘(Sheffield Sunday Soul’, Darnall Horti' Soul Club and host of the fabulous Rifle Club sessions @ Whitby Northern Soul Weekender).

All confirmed for Saturday afternoon chillout.

Thanks everso for the wonderful people who braved the rain for the afternoon chillout session then the evening Northern & Motown . 

 

Gary Smith again did us proud again in co ordinating a top notch set of djs for the afternoon . Amazing and riveting tunes , collections to die for, predominately x-over and complimentary sets which were so well received. So take a bow Steve Mannion , Mark Etheridge , Little Av , Ian ‘Geordie ‘ Johnson , Susan Silby - Wade and Gary . You were superb . (Hopefully I’ll get the set lists and post later ) . 

 

Evening then saw Little Av returning to the The Manifesto Soul Club with a tribute to that marvellous club with an hour of memories  from that era . We also had an amazing set from Steve Mannion revisiting his days as a resident Clifton Hall Dj. Earlier a great set from Dave Cervi - Kilner who treated to us to some underplayed and forgotten by some, ‘Northern‘. Sadly due to illness Steve Crawshaw had to stand down from djing this time . Get well soon Steve. 

 

Special mention also to the Dotties team , enthusiastic and supportive owners Paul & Zoe Clark and their staff - you looked after everybody so well - the food including incredible pizzas , gelato , alcohol (in abundance ) , proper Italian coffee (trust me there is a difference) etc all made it rather special in what Av described as ‘a unique , thinking out of the box venue that really works ‘ . Quite simply there’s not another venue like it ! Who would have thought it , being in Pickering , a small  North Yorkshire market town on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and National Park . In addition to the travellers , from feedback received those living  locally loved the event - not the Pickering norm 🤣

 

So ...will be talking to Paul & Zoe further again shortly. They are keen to continue to host the Soul Sessions so maybe a date over the Christmas period (?) and then over the warmer months in 2019 for alfresco chillout Soul in the courtyard , albeit not so weather dependant as electric retractable canopies (with heaters) are soon to be installed. Keen also to continue with the follow on evening (inside) Northern & Motown .  Soon as I have dates and details I’ll get them posted .
