From John Vincent :-

Life is strange.....

I remember quite clearly just before the first niter at Samantha’s I thought shit am I up for this?

History did though prove I was and here I am some 45 years later (yes 45) promoting an niter at the Soul Shack with my mates Terry Westhead and Pete Davies who I have the utmost trust in. I can of course tell you how good it’s going to be? however with 45 years of DJing at virtually every major venue in the UK Im still as passionate as I was in 1973.

Even after my first tentative set at the Casino I ploughed a lonely furrow of my own. I’ve never ‘followed’ I’ve always done my thing with the opinion if you don’t like it then the door is over there😂

Quite frankly I’ve always believed a DJ should play a set which reflects his style and passion of all things soul. I’ve long left behind the awful durge of those white pop stompers. In short I’ve moved on, But one thing remains the desire to create a vibe by playing a set of toons that work together and frame their quality. It’s never been about playing the cheque book toons, it’s always about playing a SET of toons that works together as a whole to create that vibe. Simple still doing it and for the first time since the demise of Samantha’s in 76 I’m back doing it as a promoter😎

Why, because I’m still passionate about it and have always stuck by the original values.

No false representation here, no false talk, just a time served DJ trying his best to create that ‘vibe’

It could be a good nite tomorrow, on the other hand it could be exceptional. It usually is because I will dig deep.

Come along and see, the SHACK tomorrow

Love the philosophy.  I go to dance.  Will I dance or take a nap? That's up to the DJ's

Hopefully, you won’t have time for a nap !!!

Well that was a bit of a shot in the dark, and it paid off handsomely! I jumped on the train from leeds and trecked the mile or so into the wind and pissing rain into alfreton town centre followed my nose and found the venue, which is er,substantial , two dancefloors in thebmain room, got better as the night progressed , and the music was , of a calibre you dont really expect  but when it pans out you realise what a treat you have been given, i can never really remember who played what , but its enough to say by the time nige brown amd sean chapman kicked off , i was already shattered, i think i heard the limitations ,”im lonely kicking off as i mounted the stairs from the bogs but my feet wouldnt lift for the first step and i fell flat on ma face! , friendly folk from the the bar and door staff , to gettin the “eye “ off some carrott top, john and  terry have deserve to have this place bouncing every time its on, have a great christmas , see you in january , Now where ,d i put me horse linament!
