Wrong Crowd

This Lancaster Soul Night event has now ended

Event Information

Event Type: Soul Night

Event Date & Time:

Venue Name: University Of Cumbria

Event Location:  Lancaster   LA1 3JD

Event Description

As most,  if not all of you will be aware, we have been forced to relocate due to the thoughtless behaviour of a couple of people who attended and decided to stay in the car park at our last event.  Anyway, we now have a venue we love and we hope you will love it too. So,  on 2nd November, our guests Martyn Ward, Robbo and Dean Anderson will join our residents, Simon, Derek and Dan to bring you another night of great music , following our play what you love ethos.  Quick update, we are very pleased to announce that Chalky is joining our November lineup. Be there ...

Just going to answer a few questions we've been asked.

Parking. There's loads, (a choice of 5 onsite car parks). Ignore the pay and display machines, parking charges only operate Monday to Friday 8am-6pm.

For anyone thinking of stopping over, there's a few options, (and it's Light Up Lancaster this weekend, so plenty of visuals and fireworks going on).

In Town:

The University of Cumbria, (where we are, not to be confused with Lancaster University) is offering single rooms on a dedicated Wrong Crowd corridor, (shared bathroom and catering facilities as far as we're aware because it's term time and the flats and en suites will be occupied). With booking fee through the website I think they are £28.50 each). These are almost right next door to the venue. Further info here https://www.universityrooms.com/en-GB/city/lancaster/college/waddellhall

Within walking distance is the Lancaster Travelodge Central, (uphill there and downhill back. In terms of free parking, it's probably a case of parking near the venue up the road from the Travelodge). https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/498/Lancaster-Central-hotel

A little further away from the venue, (2 miles maybe), but near the Castle and train station, (possibly with a bit of parking) is the Royal Kings Arms Hotel https://royalkingsarmshotel.co.uk/

The more expensive in town offerings are

All within walking distance from the venue if you like hills

The Borough Lancaster  https://www.theboroughlancaster.co.uk/hotel-rooms/

The Royal Hotel and Bar (this is opposite the police station, so behave!). https://www.theroyalhotelandbar.co.uk/

The Sun Hotel https://www.thesunhotelandbar.co.uk/our-hotel-lancaster/

The Crows Hotel https://www.crowshotel.co.uk/

Slightly outta town, (taxi or driving required):

Towards the north motorway junction is the Holiday Inn - (catch Murph and the Magictones):  https://www.hilancasterhotel.co.uk/

On the A6 and about 2 miles from the venue, Lancaster University let en-suite rooms with breakfast at what seem to be OK prices https://www.universityrooms.com/en-GB/city/lancaster/college/johncreedlancaster

The Morecambe Hotel has proved very popular with some that traveled to our old venue and there are a few staying there, so a good chance of taxi sharing in an 8 seater https://www.themorecambehotel.co.uk/rooms

We'll add to this and have to be honest, I've never stayed in any of these places, but the best thing to do check out anywhere against the postcode of LA1 3JD to check how far it is from the venue

Count me in for this night as always.  Get to spend time with like minded souls looking for something different than the same old,  same old. Which is so refreshing.

Nice one Steve. Means a lot coming from you.

We've ordered a shedload of fireworks at 8pm to fly up from the Castle to light the venue up to get things going... 🤣 (although there will be a shedload of fireworks at 8pm flying up from the Castle to light the venue up 😉 )

Always fireworks when Simon and Robbo are behind the wheels of steel.  Who needs bonfire night celebrations

If anyone's asking "what the hell is this all about?" there's a review of the opening night in Issue 1042 of Blues and Soul Magazine, (yep, it's still going and in print too, none of this online nonsense).

Been asked to put up a massively interesting message of how to get to the building.

A sat nav with LA1 3JD will take to right to the door.

Basically though, coming from the south. Get off at J33, at the roundabout take your second left, (taking you right). Drive through Galgate, along the A6, (totally blanking Lancaster University, we are not there) and come into Lancaster. At the traffic lights after the garage on your left, go straight on and take your 1st Right onto Barton Road, drive along there until you reach a mini roundabout. Go over it, (not literally of course) and you'll see a pretty big building to your right. Pretty much right across from the entrance to Bowerham School, (which will be on your left), is the entrance to the University of Cumbria on your right.

Coming from the north get off at J34 follow the signs for Lancaster, drive through the one way system, (unless you know the back route around it, then you're sorted); follow the signs for the University of Cumbria, but basically stay in the one way system until you pass the magistrate court, which is just after the Town Hall on your left, stay in the left hand lane so you don;t get sucked back into the one way system and follow the road up past the hospital (on your right), to the roundabout. Take your first left at the roundabout onto Bowerham Road, drive up past the pub, (The Park Hotel) on your left. There should be a school ahead to your right, opposite it is the entrance to the university of Cumbria on you left, go in

From what ever direction you came from, after going in the entrance,  take your first right which will take you into the closest car park, right next to the venue. You really won't miss the venue, it's massive and has big white steel supports  under it. It's not well camouflaged at all.

The venue is no. 14 on the map. Car Parks on the map too. Ignore the parking meters, parking is only chargeable Monday to Fridays 8-6pm Parking is free

Note that there are 3 entrances to the University. 2 are behind it and hopefully you won;t go near them. You need to use the main entrance to get to the close car parks. If you do find yourself driving past and you're not on Bowerham Road and see an entrance, DO NOT park in it if it's the Sports Complex. They lock the gates about 11pm and you can't get out. Just use the entrance on Bowerham Road as mentioned above in Greek and it's all good, it's the easiest one anyway. Just saying this in case anyone takes a turn too early and takes one of the rear entrances, (oo err).

Interesting or what?

See you all Saturday, looking forward to the night greatly.  Not sure what time I'll be there, coming with Dean so will be on Dean O'clock 🤣

If it's dog rare, it must be the one on 'Mutt'

Dean used to play 'Dusty Wilson - It's Going To Be A Tragedy', that's Green. But I'm sure he said he used to play the Acetate of it, so you may be thinking of something else.

Grumpy Soul at Runcorn had a road protected by a magical force field that only revealed itself you passed it 3 times shouting the magic words "how the f**k do I get over there."

Simon seemed to think getting a tired and hazy me to pop this on was a good idea. I told him it wasn't. Just pop a warm coat and a pair of tennis rackets in your boot, in case you end up in the Antarctic following this.

It won't be the first time that anyone has got lost going to any venue never mind the first time at a new venue. Especially on Lancasters one way system.  Sat nav is poised and ready.
