Hi everyone,

And a very Happy New Year to you all, we're back and rearing to go after the huge success of our New Year event, so due now to popular demand we have now fine tuned our event hours, we're now starting an hour later at 3:00pm and finishing at 9:00pm, giving you that extra hour to arrive here, but still not too late to finish for a Monday Start.

This month we're having an in house event, due to our hectic New Year event DJ rosta so we didn't get chance to play a lot of those forgotten gems and perhaps even some new spins that you might not heard and want to hear and as our policy is to bring you something a little different we intend to do just that so this event is a team only one, but we're back to normal format for next month with a quality guest DJ.

Competitive bar prices, flyer, talc and request friendly with a 100% dance floor driven music policy, and all this just £3.00 admission for 6 hours of quality Northern Soul, Motown and R&B

The Philly Soul Brothers @ The Philadelphia Function Suite, 2-4 Martin Street, Upperthorpe, Sheffield S6 3DW

This event just gets better & better each month with numbers rising each time, The feedback that we have received is great as people are telling us this is the best place in Sheffield to hear quality Northern, 60s R&B & Motown plus rare or underplayed on vinyl with a dance floor driven music policy. Our last event on the 30th Dec was a cracker with lots of returning soulies & it was nice to see some new faces giving us great feedback and stating that they would be returning because of the quality of music being played, Friendly atmosphere & the lovely venue with the cheap bar prices.

Come and give it a try I am sure you will not be disappointed

Don't forget folk that due to popular demand we've adjusted our event hours for The Philly Soul Brothers Sunday events, we're now starting at 3:00pm and finishing at 9:00pm (giving you that extra hour to get here and not making it too late for a Monday morning start!)

Six hours of fantastic Soul music, something old, something new, something borrowed, but never blue!

Competitive bar prices, flyer, talc and request friendly with a 100% dance floor driven music policy, and all this just £3.00 admission for 6 hours of quality Northern Soul, Motown and R&B

HI, Can we please stick to Northern, Motown and R&B not reggae , ska or disco please.  I have been a soulie since 1976 and northern did not include reggae or ska so why play it. I Will give this venue another go and hopefully they will stick to what is advertised..

Cheers

 Dave Storey.

Hi, Dave Sorry to hear your negative feedback and I totally agree if these other genres of music are played they should be posted on the event flyers etc. But it is not our aim to play this type of music we do advertise a request friendly venue and if half a dozen records get requested that are a bit out of the ordinary that makes people want to dance we have to go along with this as this is what we advertise.

I myself would jump at the chance every time to know that I could go to a local event and sacrifice half an hour of music that didn't sit well with me but listen to over 5hrs of cracking music this is our aim and always will be.

I myself will not be DJing tomorrow or present at the Philly as I have been unwell but came and have a chat next time your in Dave

Love this venue and I think its great that there is a  dancefloor driven music policy.

I think there is some cracking music played here by all the DJs with something to suit all.

Its the friendliest club in South Yorkshire and definately the place to be on a Sunday afternoon.......see you all tomorrow ✊✊

Hi Dave,

Just to echo a few of Andy's points, we're sorry to hear you were disappointed with the music on offer when you paid a visit to our club but as it quite clearly said on our old flyer "we are request friendly and with a 100% dance floor driven music policy" and I'm sure you'll agree that with this ethic people will ask for music of their personal choice and with all things personal what suits one might not suit another.

Dave I'm surprised that as a ardent Soulie (since 1975) you haven't been to to an event and not heard any Ska or Raggae played in a DJ's set even if this hasn't been mentioned as such, over my years going venues up and down the British Isles both genres have been common place and more so today Baby' Earl & the Trini-dads "Back Slop" has been a staple play for many years and is well respected Ska dancer and as a regular DJ at The Corner Pocket Soul Club in Mexborough, I can say that visiting DJ's putting a couple of Trojan flavoured tunes into their set is not uncommon.

Just to the last point about Disco music (I believe this might be myself to blame for this) I do play a fair amount of 70's Soul often very Mecca influenced and there is often a very fine line between Disco and 70's Northern Soul but I do draw the line at playing The Village People or Liquid Gold.

Finally I can clearly remember when R&B as a general rule would not have been and option at a Northern Soul and Motown event, but I fully appreciate that times and music tastes change as to the definition of what is and isn't Northern Soul.

Dave I sincerely hope you do pay us another visit I can assure you of a warm welcome and recommend the teams early spots to hear something a little out of the ordinary, looking forward to seeing you soon.

Russ
