Wow! What a great venue this is, never been, always thought it looked interesting and somehow acquired an anniversary CD from here but couldn't really justify the 63 mile drive when there was anything else on; anyway tonight apart from Rugby, the Midlands seemed to be totally quiet so with nothing to loose we set off, we were quite late leaving but thought that maybe people would be at Blackpool or Rugby and it would be a bit empty, it was far from it - You know some venues where you rock up at 8pm and everyone seems to trickle in for two hours, have a few drinks, basically ignoring the 'warm up' DJ, have an extended chat, then after a while, probably when House For Sale comes on, they start to get up and dance one by one? Well this place IS NOT ANYTHING LIKE THAT - the atmosphere is just awesome; packed dancefloor from when we arrived, two world champions but they were by no means on their own, hot, dark and sweaty in the main room but that's just the way it should be!

Billed as 100mph solid oldies and it wasn't far off that; personally I'm not in the least bothered about oldies-or-not cause there are some 100mph newies out there that I love even more (Harlem Gospel Travellers for one) but there were a  few slower ones here and there, that's not to take away from the quality though not a bad track, a couple of repeats (maybe) but I'm being picky, all the DJ's played blinders. Cheap enough bar and two rooms - the back Motown room was nice enough and a lot cooler than the main room but the main ballroom was where the action was, for only £4! This is a model for what other soul nights could do (of course it all depends in the crowd being there) but how do they manage it? Definitely coming back to this one.

Did a couple of sketches, one of the DJ Yocky and one of a World Champion dancer, too busy to do much more.

I rarely give 5 stars - I've noticed that often reviews are by people connected with the event who inevitably give 5 stars to everything. I am trying to be objective.
