Large, sprung dance floor. The floor design is based on a network of woven wood and is described as being one of only two floors of its type. The other is at Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

The house sound system was designed and built by K-Array, an Italian high end audio solutions outfit. Tops are Dragon KX12's and bass is handled by Thunder KM18p's. Total power output is 3.6 KW. An extra 4.2KW at the other end of the Ballroom provides an even volume. Powerful and inspirational on the dance floor but quiet enough to have a conversation at your table.

Access to Balcony.

Bar behind the stage.

Entry £6. 7.45pm - 1am. No entry after 11pm.

Will update the information to add to DJ listing . Many thanks Ron . Glowing references indeed . Sound System looks complicated.  But we adjust and replace faulty cables within minutes  . As we carry spares for all . Mick Howard noted a faulty speaker output on Saturday.  Audio Hooligan repaired it new replacement cable and the adjusted sound output when came back online . Sound levels same in Centre of Dancefloor as in front of Speakers . Including The Giant Base Hubs 😉   . As I showed with sound meter.

I love the music, but sound is what I'm interested in. I leave the DJs to choose what they play. I just try to make it sound right.

It's every sound engineers nightmare when something stops working halfway through a gig. Working on a live system of this complexity can be traumatic. We lost 25% of the system for 5 minutes at our August event.

Our cables are top quality but still we had a rogue one that failed. Replacing the cable is easy, but identifying which is the dubious one is considerably trickier.

If you're not interested in how it works, stop reading here. I can send a glass eye to sleep when I get started.

The system now has two mixers, eight speakers, ten amplifiers and enough cable to reach the moon.

There are effectively two systems, one at each end of the room both in the region of 4.5kw.

Each system has its 'sweetspot'. Standing in front of the stage, look at the distance between The House System left and right speakers. Form an equilateral triangle (equal sides, equal angles) and put yourself in the third position of the triangle. There it is. Move just an inch or two either side and you can hear the stereo split.

Exactly the same occurs at the other end of the room where The Hooligan System resides. Two bi amped 12" tops with a 120Hz high pass filter giving 2.6Kw RMS. But the jewel in the crown is the pair of 18" 2Kw subs running cardioid mode array. With a low pass filter set at 120Hz, I put one speaker on top of the other. The top speaker is pointing backwards and I invert and put a delay on it. Bass voodoo occurs and no noise comes out the back of the speaker. But a mighty bass comes out the front.

Furthermore, the bass sonic map is changed from Omnidirectional to very directional. I can point the bass where I want it.

I didn't invent it. It's one of those things that once you know how it works, it's obvious. I just follow the manual and push some buttons.

The sonic characteristics of the room change as it fills up and I alter the volumes. The bass needs to be operated separately as it doesn't behave the same as the higher frequencies.

A friend said on Saturday that it felt like something was vibrating inside her. This caused me to raise my eyebrows untill I realised that is what 2Kw of Cardioid Array Bass will do.

There is a third sweet spot in this system which is bang centre of the room and where the best seats in the house are.

I really enjoy my work and hope that you like listening to it. It doesn't just happen.

I do sound control at Accrington Soul Club, Blackburn Oldies and K & D Soul Club.

Hooligan.

We endeavour to provide best possible Sound and quality Soul from decks . Which we never take Finger off the pulse . As you noted Saturday.  DJ habit is turn it up . At Town Hall music is perfectly balanced . Where as I showed you can sit in front of speakers and still have same quality as Dancing centre of Ballroom.  No one going home with tinnitus lol

Lots of good feeling leading up to this one. It takes time to shake down a new venue and going into only our fifth event, we've got the technical issues sussed. We have some outstanding DJs and a night of delight is anticipated.
