I think that time I'd said the music was not entirely my cup of tea but it was probably unfair and based on one and a half DJ sets. It's on the outer reaches of where I'd normally travel on a Friday night but worth the effort, especially as the first Friday of the month is usually a bit of a soul desert. All the usual stuff - cheap bar, lots of parking really nice dance floor, good friendly crowd, a few Stafford faces, all ages (14 year old soulie there). Good spots from everyone and the music was really what I'd consider the definition of 'Across The Board' - at the one end you had The Turnpikes - Cast a Spell and at the other R Kelly (no knowing how much longer he'll be played out), a few oldies, some modern a bit of funky stuff. All really interesting though, just goes to show you can keep it interesting and varied and with enough familiar stuff in there without having to flog to death House For Sale or I Wanna Give You Tomorrow (Hi Andrew ). It passed the Shazam test. Anyway, I'd say as good a Friday night as any and much more varied and stimulating than some. Definitely not a top 500 only night. Did a DJ sketch which went a bit wrong so I haven't finished yet and drew Hannah the Young Soul Disciple. I rarely give 5 stars - I've noticed that often reviews are by people connected with the event who inevitably give 5 stars to everything. I am trying to be objective. Link to review
