Strangely the third Saturday seems to be rather a quiet one, which means there's not a lot in the West Midlands to compete with this and hence we, yet again, made the 63 mile drive to Sutton in Ashfield.

And it was well worth it - If you want atmosphere, this place is pretty unrivalled, packed, full dancefloor all night, two rooms for a bit of light relief, some great dancers and faces from all over the Midlands. The slippiest dancefloor pretty much anywhere on earth, excellent range of DJ's, cheap drink etc. etc. Only Willington (final night), Wigan Empire and Stoke (Richard Searling's final all nighter) have come close in the second half of this year.

Can't remember much music wise but nice to hear Mike Pedcin and the Action breaking out of the Mod ghetto that they are sometimes consigned to, Jackie Edwards (always a 10 from me), The Shalimars; Ted Massey played something I've never heard before as well (not Shazamable either) must ask him what it was? (if I can remember myself 😁). Only 1 repeat all night and not a bad track, well certainly no hammered to death stuff.

Drew the room and one really different dancer, massive control but didn't move his arms too much which is why he looks a bit static?

Anyway apart from the travelling this would be a fixture in my calendar for the third Saturday - you won't find better.

I rarely give 5 stars - I've noticed that often reviews are by people connected with the event who inevitably give 5 stars to everything. I am trying to be objective.
