Not a bad one at all, the second Friday of the month is suffering now that Old Brogues (Birmingham's only remaining monthly event) has gone so one less venue to choose from and there's not a great deal of choice locally.

The music here was really excellent - resident John Bunn, played a superb set of not-overdone stuff including a few nice things like Jeanette Williams - all Of A Sudden, Wombat - I'm Getting' On Life. Unfortnately guest Johnny Jinks couldn't make it and Greg Trinder stepped in, kept things going in a similar vein. All in all a welcome change to not have to endure yet another spin of I Wanna Give You Tomorrow or House For Sale.

The big drawback, however, is the floor - there's a wood effect laminate surface down but it's concrete. Talc is allowed, and needed, because otherwise you end up with black gunk on the soles of your shoes. Nice crowd, satisfyingly dark lighting, ridiculously cheap beer (£2.60 a pint!).

So it's a big plus for the music and a minus for the floor. Worth a visit though.

Drew the other resident DJ - Silky.

I rarely give 5 stars - I've noticed that often reviews are by people connected with the event who inevitably give 5 stars to everything. I am trying to be objective.
