About The Event

The COVID-19 measures have left the Rare Soul scene littered with cancelled events and the faithful following home alone at the weekends; so the Bury Town Hall team have decided to launch a ‘virtual’ all-nighter. The show will be broadcast over internet radio every Saturday while we’re under lockdown from 20:00 until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The format will be just like a real event with a selection of DJs from previous and upcoming all-nighters at Bury Town Hall selecting their spots, carefully in order, from actual records they own to keep it real.

You can join us at https://www.radioking.com/radio/soulallniter

...and we also hope to be posting links for use with iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, Real Player & Quick Time in the near future.
We hope you enjoy the show and it goes some way to filling the void and lifting your spirits

Totally agree Len, another great night at Bury, but I don't agree with the "not for me" thing, you are right that they don't seem to mind but I know that others do, imagine going up to the decks and telling the dj that you didn't like a certain tune that they had chosen for their spot , you would be told where to go!

I think that the banter is great but I don't think that negativity is needed, the lads put a lot of time and effort into this and they should be praised.

Regards

Ste😉

I can most definately imagine 'going up to the decks and telling the dj that you didn't like a certain tune that they had chosen for their spot'.  Trouble is, I was that DJ! It has happened to me on several occasions but with much more colouful words to boot.  I just wish I wasn't a 'Southern Softy' being too scared to 'tell em where to go'.  Now that's negativity, and although I laugh about such matters, you're right - in reality that negativity isn't nice.

At least it shows that The Bury All-nighter tunes are not predicatable

Len

I'll always be the first to admit that - for decades, I couldn't grasp the concept that quality soul music could be found anywhere past 1969.. with very rare exception !! Not until Y2K did my stubbourn  streak begin to realise that, actually, i'd been missing out on years of tunes I would go on to embrace with welcome arms !! Many finding their way on to the never-ending list of wants, with some STILL on the list lol..

Even to this day, I confess to still struggling with an entire set of non 60's soul sounds, but that said.. I am thankful that these days I am at least able to listen without my bias clouding my appreciation of quality soul music - whether to my personal liking or not..

Having just listened to Chalky's offerings from last night he delivered just that - an hour of quality soul music !! Being frank.. most were not to my personal taste, but that's not to say they weren't all of the level of quality of soul music the Bury Virtual 'Niters seem to produce

I did recognise three of the delights on offer, but new to me - and the stand out track in my book.. was the sublimely superb Soul Stirrers 'Trying To Be Your Friend' !! Wow !! with this Jewel label 45 adding yet another entry to that aforementioned wants list lol..

Nice One Chalky.. I enjoyed the education - just don't enjoy the fact you will likely cost me even more money I already don't have !! 😄

It's great to read that Johnny - I know a few people who have come round to being more open to different soul music (in my case Mid-tempo) They also admit that they didn't really give it a chance, and wish they had done years ago.

It's the ignorance of not really listening, and writing it all off as cr*p is what I find a crying shame (For them)

Hiya, have to agree with Len regarding 'tony clarke' . Great stuff. Tunes reminded me of our do's at the sweet pea in the early 9ts and other Midlands clubs at the time. Cheers

Hello everyone,

Another very enjoyable , entertaining (chat room comments) and educational virtual niter from the crew.
Well done all round.

Have to mention DJ Ben Owen who played some great soundz I enjoyed very much - thank you.
Know nothing about him - from around Bury area ?

Tony Clarke (there's a name!) - lots of uptempo stuff new to me - but boy did they pack a punch.
From times gone bye ie. forgotten oldies or current reactivated Bury big hitters ?

Looking forward to the other DJ's returning in the future.
I'm sure some of last nights and previous ones; have been at the Blackpool Int. Soul Fest ?   (some names familiar)
We [Banbury Soul Club in Richard's Connoisseur's Room) have since it started - such a shame cancelled this year.

Kind regards,     Tom.

Thanks mate.

I tried not to be too adventurous whilst trying not to be too safe, didn't wish to send everyone to bed.  Some current plays and a few more obscure things but most well seasoned.   Nice to see it well received though by many.  had some good positive comments.

Will look into doing another if Simon wants one.
