I managed to contain my excitement a bit this week, instead of turning up early I thought I would try the 'Fashionably Late' approach.. What a STUPID idea that was, as I managed to miss the first 45 minutes of the Early Doors set - including my own request of Fortson & Scott's ' Just A Little Step' !! Needless to say I'll be back to waiting outside the Town Hall from 5pm again for the next episode !!

I didn't know of Richard Free, or the types of selections he would be offering from 8-9 pm.. When he kicked off with some tunes that leaned more to the early 60's tinged with r'n'b I was personally very happy, 'cos I do have a penchant for some early 60's tunes.. especially those of NY productions - big voice, full orchestral types. He mixed it up later by adding a few more 'garage soul' type tunes before rounding off his hour nicely with some class mid-tempo. A very welcome, and pleasant start to the evenings proceedings

Young Whippersnapper Jordan took control of the next 60 minutes, offering up some classic dancers - some from when I first began my soul journey and stirring up memories of being a long-haired teen once more (cringe lol). He included an unissued version of Gloria Jones' 'Come Go With Me' by an unidentified female.. couldn't quite make my mind up on it but would like to hear it again, as it was certainly refreshing..

Next up was Mr Smooth Operator himself, Lenny !! Quite simply.. he managed to blow me away with his set - and had me in stitches recounting his tale of standing outside a venue and loudly asking if peeps had nothing better to do than talk about bloody records !!! Typical Len, kicks of with some mid-tempo magic before seamlessly increasing the tempo with each 45 he dispatched, until the tempo was commensurate with what you would expect if visiting a 'live' allnighter.. No doubt about it though.. each and every selection he made oozed that much class - I had to quickly run round the house closing all the windows lest any of it escaped !! It's been a long time since I heard Len 'play out', but he didn't disappoint - and without taking anything away from the other DJ's, or the superb music they treated the listeners too, was the stand out DJ for me, at least.. His offering of the Sea Shells 'Quiet Home' also being my personal stand-out track.. Brilliant !!

It was now 11 pm and I bet Simon must have been racking his brains this week, wondering how to follow that which had gone before him.. Simon is a true professional though, and took control by spinning a mixture of class rarities intermingled with what Bury is synonymous for - quality 45's of low-end value that sound like five figure tunes !! Well.. certainly up until 11.30 - as I can't remember anything after that due to nodding off  (for a change lol) !! and being woken a bit later hearing 'My Love Is So Strong For You' by Geater Davies.. It was 12.30 and Robbo was in charge of the music. DAMN !! I so wanted to catch his entire 60 minutes as I just KNOW Robbo is gonna play tunes right up my street.. which he did continue to do until the change-over at 1 am where Baz would be taking the reins.. I'd heard him play over previous weeks and so didn't feel too guilty when I decided I needed to get my head down and so called it a night (lightweight..)

And another fantastically entertaining night it was !! Hats off, as usual, to the DJ's - but especially the producers, for spending their valuable time for the benefit of so many others.. Take A Bow !! Hopefully the listening figures will show an increase again.. and a step closer to Soul World Domination..

Managed to stay up way too late, but you can't DJ when your asleep.

Excellent night and the usual musical assault on the senses. Heard loads of great new things from all DJs and can't remember them until I see the list, then I'll revise and try and match them up, not that using Bury for the basis of a wants list is a wise move.
