Looking forward to this, where it all started for me, Chartbusters Vol 4 was my first self paid for LP.  Got Vol 3 2 weeks later.

Link to comment

My First album was the Motown disco classics volume 2 with poster, quickly followed by volumes 3 and 4 and Ric-tic relics about 74 all from a very meagre Apprentice wage, they where a quick way of collecting and didn't cost a fortune

Volume 3 is as good as any compilation out there.  Its only the fact that the LP was played to death and they are so familiar that it hasn't hit the turntable in eons, but that is down to my stupidity!!

Was there a decision made about the inclusion of subsidiary labels... VIP, Gordy, Soul etc?

Ste.

Link to comment

Dave has volunteered to act as Quality Control on our behalf      so if the Selection is not Motown or subsidiary labels.it will not be allowed for this show lol   !!!

Im putting it together next week  through  the week  so it gives everyone some time for consideration of their own choices this week

25 tracks a piece

This show will be very interesting   if we get more than 8  contributors it will have to be a dayer-nighter !!!!!

The running order will be drawn from a hat ,like the fa cup draw that will be announced next Saturday

You have until Saturday  the 8th  then it is closing   looking forward to the real thing on the 29th so much

The consensus all over the world of music is, Berry Gordy didn't want to flood the radio stations with too many releases on one label, so he gave different labels to different artists ,so the secret is out, it's all really Motown anyway, fill your boots folks,

The early UK labels prior TMG. included Ste mate lol,

Just realised that I have selected "Destination Anywhere"  which was on Winsford's set.  If you haven't started playing with things already already can you replace this with - Gladys & Pips - Just Walk In My Shoes.

Looking through the fantastic lists that have been posted I think there's only about 3 or 4 records been duplicated.  Which isn't bad considering.  This is going to be one special night

We should have invited Chris Anderton. 2nd record of this week's Dab of Soul, Jimmy Ruffin -  I Will Never Let You Go (b side of Farewell Is A Lonely Sound) a piece of X/O magic.  Looking for a new shovel to Dig Deeper next time, single sitting somewhere probably untouched since the year it came out, I wonder if I played this then.

If someone has to be there all the time to press buttons set things in motion etc I would say it is their decision.   If it looks like an 11hr stint an option is to do them over 2 weeks, but once again, someone still has to manage this.  Like Mick happy to step aside, alternatively no idea how easy to crop lists, or just put them all in on a random selection and what gets played gets played?

Just decided this ramble has probably confused as much as helped.

Another idea maybe to limit the selections for length of spot and maybe the person who submitted the set can edit themselves? Whatever works as the easiest option.

Martin just a suggestion mate why don't you have the planned start end / time as original suggested and just incorporate those remaining sets into the next nighter if that's possible

I think that splitting it into two nights is a good idea, I know it's more effort on Martin but I think it would be a shame to edit the lists after the thought and effort that has gone into them, just my opinion.

We have created a monster 😂
