Bazm 1,073 Posted November 22 (edited) Looking forward to what will be our final night of the year and what a year it’s been! Reiterating the musical ethos of the much loved and much missed LOWTON CIVIC HALL soul nights, CULCHETH has strived to maintain a focus on quality sounds, with a mix of rare, underplayed and classic original records and so this year along with a small number of other venues has, in our opinion, kept to the traditions and expectations of the rare soul scene and its loyal followers. Mentioning a number of other venues following the values of the scene, one such venue is Ashton Ukrainian Club. This year has also seen Ashton consolidate its place in the North-West soul calendar as a ‘must-visit’ event and so it’s with great pleasure that we announce a joint promotion between ASHTON and CULCHETH on December 7th. DJ’s on the night, representing ASHTON will be two of the driving forces of Ashton’s success, SIMON INGHAM and MICK HOWARD and representing CULCHETH will be resident DJ’s KEV MURPHY and BAZ MALEEDY, adding to the line up for the night will be special guest, CULCHETH and ASHTON regular, and resident DJ at RUGBY, SWINTON all-nighters and Rare Soul Bol Weekenders, DAVE RIMMER! There is no doubt, this will be a real CHRISTMAS CRACKER, so get it in the diary for SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER! Edited November 22 by Bazm 1

Bazm 1,073 Posted November 26 So as we near December and CULCHETH is on the first Saturday of the festive month, December 7th… We get right in the festive spirit with and absolute CHRISTMAS CRACKER in the form of an ASHTON Meets CULCHETH SPECIAL! A two room Saturday night out but the main room featuring residents from ASHTON UKRAINIAN and CULCHETH joined by SPECIAL GUEST DAVE RIMMER for a night of rare, underplayed and classic soul sounds Here's a sample of just one of the sounds featured on the 'wheels of steel' by Special Guest at CULCHETH 1
Micksmix 2,625 Posted November 27 Should be a great mix of sounds, like this, initially played for the other side "image of a man" but as the saying goes "flip 'em over" 1
Bazm 1,073 Posted November 27 Johnny Sayles is on heavy rotation on the decks at the moment, here's a great 'under-played' oldie that's ripe for re-activation and in the box for the Christmas Cracker 1
Micksmix 2,625 Posted November 28 Proving the point Quality doesn't have to cost £££s From an artist that has provided two Iconic dancers that shook the scene, take a listen to this !!! 1
Bazm 1,073 Posted November 28 (edited) Dave Rimmer currently has this mid-tempo gem for sale on Facebook Rare Soul Sales, if he doesn't sell it before the 7th me and Robbo are hoping he'll give it a spin as it's one of our favourite sounds... Edited November 28 by Bazm 1

I almost gave it a spin at the last Ashton for the big lad. Phil Wainwright put me onto it many years ago and then sold me his copy. Great record. 3

Whilst on the subject of Johnny Sayles I remember Hoss having 2 really good unreleased tracks by him on acetate. One night at the Radcliffe allnighter he told me I could have a recording of them if I could sort it out. Not thinking straight, I thought I only live 20 minutes away I'll take it home now transfer them onto CD and then I can bring it straight back to him, so off I went. As I crept into the house at 2 am hoping to set up the equipment without waking up the missus. The dog gave the game away barking like mad. What the hell are you up to she shouts. It's okay I won't be a minute. My technical ability is very limited so the chance of me pulling this off was virtually nil but I thought 2 great unreleased Johnny Sayles tracks is worth a go. I can't remember the titles but I do remember Andy Dyson playing one out one night. Hopefully somebody will remember them? Edited November 29 by Jessie Pinkman

Think Baz can help, there was a Japanese P Vine album, with I believe the said tracks ??

The other track which is an R&B stormer is 'Tell Me (Where I Stand)' (which I'll post later) and was actually issued on the 'B' side of Chris Kings I Can't Get Enough UK Soul City 45 release. Another in the playbox 3
Eddiefoster 2,879 Posted November 29 Been digging around ITB for tracks that represent Ashton - not easy coz many of my spins feature at Culcheth too ..... hopefully not a bad thing 1
Eddiefoster 2,879 Posted November 29 This track I think actually featured on one of the Lowton Anniversary LPs? Kev Murph pointed it out to me at Ashton 2
Bazm 1,073 Posted November 30 Now don't get me wrong, I love top 500 'sounds' but I REALLY love it when some of those 'forgotten' sounds get another airing and here's a point in case, thanks to CULCHETH guest DAVE RIMMER... Quality tuneage from Mr Rimmer's playbox

The titles will come to me, they are on the Pvine Lp but slightly different takes. PS Just seen Mick's post and Baz M's comment. Edited December 1 by Chalky 1
