Guest newman
Still recovering from yesterday's epic 8.5 hr mini-alldayer but wanted to send out our sincere thanks to everyone who showed up and in such numbers It was great to see so many new faces and the continued support of our regular visitors - I know several people travelled a considerable distance & it's much appreciated. The weather was glorious and all the Dj's did a fantastic job keeping everyone entertained as did Kay "The Burger Queen" keeping us all fed! We all have our preferences but for the open minded and those willing to embrace how broad the scope of this music is, it was a feast of soul and a night to remember. For those without a spark we even threw in a few fireworks! Next installment Saturday August 1st Sussex Soul Club brings you: CLASH OF THE TITANS! stevemcmahon
Just like to echo Graham's comments from the other day. Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday's extravaganza - was quite something being able to chill to some soul grooves with a beer, in a chair looking out across an open meadow in the middle of the countryside on such a sunny day You could quite easily have mistaken it for somewhere in Italy, it was that glorious! The numbers far exceeded our expectations with people coming from all over! A mini-bus, Scooterists, art students & our faithful regulars made it a day to remember for all the right reasons. I too thought all of our DJs did brilliant jobs and illustrated just how wide an array of quality soul there is out there on this scene! Personally, I got to play some choons that haven't seen the light of day for quite some time now, but that was the nature of it - having fun in the sun We opened up the doors leading onto the lawn & had people popping in and out all day, particularly later on as quite a heat was being generated by the dancers. Must've been quite a special moment dancing to fireworks, only I wouldn't know as was half way across a field lighting the bloomin things Many thanks must go out to Paddy R, Linda Seddon, Rowly & Damian Le Bas for making it top-drawer soul all day long. Will get my own list together once Big Phil gives me the title of his 'self-supplied' request Really lookin' forward to August now as Lord Clancy, Ginger Dave & Paddy Shev will be goin' at it.. Kevinkent
A lot of thought must have gone into this bash. Music... food.... and fireworks!!! All in the perfect setting, on the perfect day and with lots of nice people. Well done to all the dj's for a good mix of sounds to keep the day smoothing along and the night pounding. Thanks to Chrissie, Graham, Steve, and Kay, for all the hard work and for your hospitality. A fine 4th July salute to American Soul music. - Kev & Pam Link to comment

stevemcmahon
Was a great set, Rowly - definitely did the stuff & had everyone on the floor for quite some time Personally, my excuse for being late with these was that I broke one of my own rules & gave in to playing a 'user's-own' request & have spent 2 days looking for the damn thing! Astrix marks the spot.. The irony in the playlists this time is contrary to what I thought I'd do, which would have been to play more underplayed tracks, I actually ended up going with the mood of the day, which was out & out fun & ended up playing some reet classics which took me & quite a few others, waaay back when.. 6:25 - 7:00 Mickey Moonshine - Name It You Got It Alfie Khan Sound Orchestra - Law Of The Land Richard Popcorn Wylie - Rosemary, What Happened Jackie Lee - Darkest Days Black Nasty - Cut Your Motor Off Syl Johnson - That's Why RPM Generation - Rhona's Theme Spencer Wiggins - Let's Talk It Over LJ Reynolds & Chocolate Syrup - What's A Matter Baby (Is It Hurting You) Pleasure - Give It Up Glenda McLeod - No Stranger To love Bill - Space Lady 11:35 - 12:30 Jesse Fisher - You're Not Loving A Beginner Marvin Holmes & Justice - You Better Keep Her Larry Williams & Johnny Watson - A Quiter Never Wins Little Richard - I Don't Wat To Discuss It The Precisions - If This Is Love (I'd Rather Be Lonely) Little Anthony & The Imperials - Better Use Your Head Dobie Gray - Out On The Floor (request) The Marvelettes - I'll Keep Holding On The Cre-Shendos - You're Still On My Mind Little Charles & The Sidewinders - It's A Heartache Nolan Porter - If I Could Only Be Sure Bobby Sheen - Something New To Do We The People - Making My Daydream Real Imperial Wonders - You Live Only once Carl Carlton - You Can't Beat A Man In Love Arthur Prysock - All I Need Is You Tonight Numonics - Forever And A Day Wrecking Crew - You Don't Know Rising Love feat.
