harpo1
What a wonderful turn out, in memory of a much loved, and greatly missed soul fan. The night was on what would have been his birthday, the family had expressed their wish to hold the night, with all proceeds to go to charity, and there were lots and lots of mates, from near and far in attendance. Firstly i must thank Sean, who was along with Sandi and a few other Willenhall folks, his oldest mate, It was a great tribute not only to Rob, but also to Sean, who along with Roger, Drippin' and others to a lesser extent, who made the night a packer. Thanks to all the DJ's from not only the West Mid's. but also further afield, the emphasis for the night was on mainly oldies and storming dancers, with everyone playing their part, building the night up with constant dance floor action. There was a bit of an incident concerning some idiocy in the gents urinal, who the f--k could be so disrespectful, at any time let alone in the specific circumstances. The crowd were so incensed that they all chipped in to the tune of 162 quid, to help pay for the damage, yet as Sean made clear it did not in the slightest detract from the dazzling success of the night. Thanks to all of Rob's family for their genuine friendship and commitment, god bless you all. And last but certainly not least thanks to you all for attending, once again a fitting and heartfelt show of affection for a truly great friend. As before Sandi and i finished off the night, slightly curtailed by the raffle draw, and then by an announcement about the incident mentioned above, here's our plays. Whispers..."Remember" Magnificents..."My heart is calling" Capitols..."Don't say maybe baby" Jerry Naylor..."City lights" Milton Wright..."I belong to you" Jodi Mathis..."Don't you care anymore" Darrell Banks..."I'm the one who loves you" Richare Temple..."That beating rhythm" Duke Browner..."Crying over you" RPM Generation..."Ronas theme" Younghearts..."A little togethernes" Bobby Hebb..."Love love love" Spyder Turner..."I can't make it anymore" Doug Parkinson..."I'll be around" Franki Valli..."The night"...(a special request for the family) Rob...we love you mate, keep us a seat at the big nighter in "soul heaven" Harpo Link to comment

Guest sandi
Yet again Rob even though no longer with us in the physical sense, has brought together a whole assembly of friends from many parts of the country, all of whom had one common purpose, to be part of honouring the memory of a truly special person, who with his cheeky charm, wit and "Pomarism" won the hearts of many. That above anything else shone brightly lastnight by the amount of people who attended to pay tribute to a lovely guy, sadly missed........but NEVER FORGOTTEN. Musically the night was based around the "soulful music " that Rob loved, and the dance floor reflected the appreciation for his taste. Even Hazel(Rob's mom) was up and dancing. (SPECIAL BIRTHDAY WISHES TO YOU HAZEL FOR TO-DAY). Like Paul(Harpo) has already mentioned, whoever was responsible for the damage to the Town Hall's property should be feeling pretty disgusted with themselves today, although l suspect we will never know who was to blame. For what it's worth l think l can with confidence say that it was nothing to do with anyone who truely respected Rob, his family,or our elitist soul scene......we may dance all night, sweat buckets and look a sight in the morning after a good allniter etc, but on the whole we can pride ourselves with having certain standards and an unwritten code of conduct.....we would never behave in such a disrespectful manner.......WELL NOT BY VANDALISING ANY VENUE.....EXCEPT WIGAN CASINO WHEN MOST OF US TOOK A CHUNK OF THE BALCONY ON THE LAST NIGHT BEFORE THE BULLDOZERS MOVED IN Many thanks to Rob's family ,Sean,Roger,Drippin and the others involved in making this night truely "A Night To Remember". Guest Sean Haydon
Finally got on line. Sorry but i've been busy all day practicing my underwater pipe welding skills. Ken, where the hell you been mate, call yourself a plumber. I know you've got your new interests on the STOCK market but you did say you'd help me. Do you realise that Roger's been there all night trying to stop The Dripin! Anyway, Firstly, a great big thanks to all Dj's who gave up their evenings to join us and play from their hearts, Snowy, Max, Kenny (Burt), Scotty, Martin Farmer, Sammy Dee, Dave Evison, Phil Kowalski, Karl Heard, Sandi & Harpo. Everyone played in their own particular style and all Fantastic. Catering for all types of soulies, music, ranging from Gritty R&B, Early Cats sounds, Mecca, Wigan and the more recent nighters, in particular, Burnley for it's cutting edge tunes. Rob's favourite venue of late. To quote Willie, the Dj's cleverly played records that Rob loved. Special thanks to Sammy for allowing the use of his DJ equipment, despite a few technical problems (the midlands road network and Walsall District Council). Harpo, you are a Star mate, for helping Sammy set up and break down. Roger's lovely girlfriend Karen for the tedious reception desk task and Dawn (Sammy's girl) for sorting some equipment, clearing up our mess and being so patient. Thanks also to Poma's nighter friends for taking the trouble to travel to us, Mike & Jan Cog, Kate, Willie, Kit & Karen, Terry & Katrina, Chris & Ingrid, Chris, Marcelle & Carrick, Kev and Sharon, Paul & Clare, Terry, Big Danny and Ladies (A pleasant surprise). Plus all the more local soulies who had the pleasure of meeting & Loving Rob. Together making this brilliant night so special. The aim of the night was to show his family just what our scene is all about, that Poma is not forgotten and for us to have a good time. I didn't hear one negative comment, everyone had a great night. Rob's family absolutely loved it. Thanks for your support and generous donations. A Class night as Poma would have said. Love to you all, Sean x The big question is, should we do something similar next year? Please let me have your thoughts. Edited August 16, 2009 by Shorny Link to comment

harpo1
Don't know the answer to that one Sean, the Pom will always stay with us in hearts and minds, as do Bryn, Phil, Randall and Crispi to name just a few dear friends we have lost, often in such tragic circumstances over the years...each of us has special memories of nutty escapades, assosciated tunes etc...etc... I know if you do go ahead, everyone who was there last night will be back.......a mark of true love and respect for Poma.....who's laddish'ness and choice Willenhall phraseology, never stopped making us laugh, always with him but never at him, for the rest of our days we will be able to smile as we recollect, on times, tales and outings spent with him If the family want to go ahead then who are we to say no, they have taken us to their hearts, and i' m sure the depth of love we have for Rob, must give them some comfort Harpo(i'm sure Sandi will feel as i do, she will no doubt air her thoughts too) See you Tues.---Paul H Link to comment

Guest rod
Well 'arpo me old mate... I remember Rob was a year or 2 above us in school & as he hung around with all the big kids (you lot) everyone was shit scared of him ha ha. Not a bad bloke, he went out with my bezzie mates big sister (Julie Jones) & they went to Wigan a lot (via "Jethro's cocaine coach") & Sunday alldayers at the Locarno. I met a good mate in the 80s (Jimmy Harney from Pleck- remember him ?) ,bit older then me, who told me "I was gonna do him one nite...not a bad lad, he used to take some right fuckin' powder". Must say I don't remenmber him too much from niters but his kid sister (Charmaine) went out with Mark Freeman, who's dad owned the "Charles In The Oak" pub, Just up the road from us. Up the mamallers ! Link to comment
Quinvy
Well done to Sean and his team for organising this night for Poma. The place was rammed, and I hope plenty of dosh was raised for charity. I really can't believe that someone would behave like an animal and try to spoil a very special night. It was a pleasure to be involved, and to meet some lovely people. A real unexpected pleasure to see my friends from Northants. So well done one and all. Phil. Link to comment

Guest MrC
what a great night it was! Sean, Rog, Drippin' and the rest of you did the lad proud! I'm sure Pomma was up there lookin' down and enjoying the tunes that were done (Well done Harpo/Sandi for playing the best looking record in the world - Ronas Theme -Issue!) It was a shame someone had to spoil it but hey, there's always one wherever you go, and you can be sure it wasn't anyone that was there because it was a memorial for Pomma. I had a great time, 1st time I've been out to a "proper" northern night since last time I was at Darlo Town Hall 6 years ago! Was real nervous before I set off, having not seen so many of the old Wolvo crowd for quite some time, but hey I shoulda known better, and really do want to say a huge thankyou to Sean & Jane, Harpo & Sandi, Roger, Baz, Chris, Dusty, Kev, and their attendant partners for making Clare (my other half, who isn't really a "soulie") feel so welcome and for making sure she didn't feel left out while I took off going "shit! ain't heard this in ages - gotta have a dance"! I do think hearing me & the rest of you "spakin proper" helped! She has since taught my 3 yr old to say Bostin' and Baz, she's still loffin' at the Toys am we joke! Pomma would have been proud of you all, always been ready to make friends, and embracing anyone he was introduced to. It's been said already but it really was a night that did everyone proud and we're so glad we came - already working on where to go next! Sean & Jane, Hapro & Sandi - we're stayin' at yours! Peace, Love, & Soul Paul & Clare Link to comment

Guest sandi
Sean, you and Rob's family will get my backing regarding putting on another Poma Tribute Night next year........and the year after that ditto ditto ditto. This event cemented the unity and soul togetherness the scene should be all about. Long may it continue. Sandi Link to comment
