Ian Seaman Posted August 19, 2009 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Some fantastic memories of Colwyn bay Pier It was a great venue, just seemed taylor made for a Northern Night but back then venues like that were 10 a penny i guess, not any more !! How many folk went for a swim afterwards ?? can remember walking home to Rhos along the beach paddling in the sea after a swim and arriving home dripping wet !! Also got some great memories of the Friendship club, double decking with gaz Jones with only 1 deck and the Riverboat Room, can remember waking up after 1 too many one night to find myself in the gents, i came out to find the place all locked up and in the dark , there used to be some stairs that connected the room to the main hotel and i just calmly walked out about 6am covered in puke , funnily enough i still do that Ian. I was @ the Riverboat the night Dave Godin was to do a review for Blues & Soul think it was 1972? showing off dancing slipped on my Arse in front of him, there was always a good crowd there. Also on the Pier the first time Major Lance appeared he had a rock band backing him, it didn't go down well when they played some Rolling Stone's song's i think bottle's where thrown ? im trying to remember more !!! Back to the Pier it's in a right mess i pass it everyday something should be done with it or knock it down. I ve been thinking about nights @ The Riverboat there were always fights inside & after . Great venue. Hi Neil, Which one were you at............The "MAJOR" appeared in 73 & 83............ For me , both time's were brilliant !!!!!!!!!!! Also just for the record.........Regarding Major Lance's "LOST COAT" on a thread in All Our Yesterdays... His coat went missing @ the "Colwyn Bay Pier"....I know this cause a mate of mine nicked it & I had to return it the next day to the Pier Management, Who then returned it to the stoke management.... I can remember Djing with Gaz on 1 deck with no mic and no lights , using his fag lighter to cue up !!! i bet we played the same records 3 times in an hours set back then but there again so did most of the jocks at Wigan in the early days I used to carry my records in a shopping bag back then, funny how they had no value to me back then even tho i was just leaving school and getting my 1st job as an apprentice mechanic on £10 a week with £2 bus fare allowance , i reckon some of them didn't even have sleeves would cry now if i did that I am amazed how we all got to Wigan & back on the train on such low wages, entry fee, gear coff coff and vinyl too !!!, christ i should be Chancellor Any more ??
