Like a lot of you I get mails form Anglo, but its the latest bid that has shocked me.

Earl White Jr

Very Special Girl

Cygnet 102

Our first copy in a decade or more, super soulful 1977 dancer out of Bossier City, Louisiana!

I know this was discussed a while ago when it was sold on Manship for I think about £800

Has demand soared even more for this?

Even though its got a dodgy ending........ph34r.gif

Wow, that is staggering. Pretty sure I remember Robin Salter playing it at Stafford to an empty dancefloor and Gary Cape having these for sale at the time.

I've mentioned this on here before but I once tried to swap Earl White Jr. with Tim Brown for a copy of Arthur Freeman on Jumbo, which was a rare record at the time (this was at least a decade before a couple of boxes of the Jumbo single turned up in California). I'm sure Tim won't mind me reminding him that he stated "It's a good record and a scarce record, but no-one is ever going to want a copy of Earl White Jr."

I'd be interested to know just how widely EWJ was collected at the time it emerged: I don't remember it actually being listed by Soul Bowl but they definitely had copies which were circulated to their 'elite' customer base (the Simon Murrays of this world!). Mine came from Rod Dearlove when he started the Voices list a few years later and would have cost about £50. Pure speculation but I'm guessing a few dozen copies in the UK from around 1983 onwards.

Like John says an OK record, the ending of which ruins it a bit. There are dozens of Malaco productions from the time on the main label and labels like Chimneyville which knock it into a cocked hat.

I also don't remember it being listed on the Soul Bowl list but on Garry Capes list, maybe around 85/86. I do remember people phoning him over a period of time and still getting them, so possibly he may have had quite a stash, maybe Garry can confirm this?

So how many are going to pop up in the sales section?

I didnt buy this when they came into Soul Bowl ( Poke and Sam defo had em ) . I think its a tough record really plus I cant actually remember one being on the bay ?

Robin played it in his Stafford sets a fair bit then shifted it to Nigel Parker

I seem to remember that the last one on Manships site sold for £847 , I remember asking for value on here as I have a mint one that I keep meaning to put up for sale. If its going that high it may well be a good time to actually get round to selling it!! Good record but upwards of a grand seems excessive but hey if im selling it would appear to be a bargain !

I think hes sold it and bought it again about three times Ted. Ya know he cant even remember records like Jerome Jones, which he reviewed in Steve G's Blackbeat

Sam definitely played Earl White Jr at Stafford, together with Robin and Adam, and I'm quite sure Dave Thorley too, so a few copies were around at the time. 20 years on though, I think it is a genuinely scarce 45 nowadays, and I can't recall seeing copies on eBay; I've just checked Popsike to find no no copies listed. Having said that, I'm very surprised to see it offered for over a grand.....ohmy.gif , but far more "rare" 4 figure 60's 45s are a lot easier to find than Earl White...it's a matter of perspective..

Quality tune though...........thumbup.gif

I bought a copy of Earl White Jr of Terry " Darcyboy " Ryder at one of your Cock Hotel niights circa '86/87' for £15

he had it in a small sales box, in a card board sleeve with "will someone buy this piece of modern shite off me for £20" so I knocked him down a fiver and did. Always had a soft spot for Terry sincebiggrin.gif

John Anderson always reckoned he couldn't sell this when he had it on the list and ended up wholesaling it to Japan, it will make his day when I tell him it's gone for over a grandwhistling.gifph34r.gif
