More Recommended Cheapies 60S 70S

Recommended Posts

Following on from yesterdays 'Recommended Cheapies' list, which went really well and got me digging for similar cheap gems! Some great 45s here and all at prices that won't break the bank....remember it's quality that counts, not rarity or price...

I've added refosoul links for each record, but please note most were not recorded by me and the records on this list will play as I have graded them not as they play in refosoul.

Prices include postage anywhere and payment to be made promptly by paypal please, which I do not charge extra for.

Here we go again then.....please PM with any questions/orders.

Jimmy Holiday - Love Me One More Time/The New Breed - Diplomacy

Quite simply this is one of the very best double siders around, up tempo northern soul at it's very best no matter which side you play.

EX+ few superficial surface scuffs.

£20 SOLD

Eddie Bo - I Found A Little Girl - At Last

RnB legend let's rip on this stormer of a track, fantastic!

EX+

£30

Betty Wilson - Don't Give Up - Dayco

A real stunner, the guitar intro sets the pace soon to be followed by a distinctive vocal and storming backing. Like up tempo RnB style dancers?? If you do take a listen!

M-

£35

Jimmy Dobbins - Little Miss Perfect/What Is Love - Crash

Two contrasting sides on this Chicago beauty, really good up tempo northern dancer which seems to have been missed by many. Flip it over for a superbly soulful track with a growling vocal that just grabs your attention.

M-

£40

33 1/3 - Treat Her Right - Slew

Apparently this had a few spins at Wigan though it's forgotten by most, but surely this fits perfectly into the current trend for gritty, up tempo 60s dancers. Soundfile goes wrong in last 20 seconds or so, messed up when recording it ages ago! This copy plays perfectly.

M-

£40

Edwin Starr - Back Street - Ric Tic

Classic club sound which still sounds great today, a must have 45 and for those that don't these copies are certainly cheap enough to tempt you.

EX...unplayed store stock, but stored for a period unsleeved so there are some surface scuffs, marks etc..I'll play any that sell to ensure sound is M-

£4

Rena Scott - I Just Can't Forget That Boy/mono - Epic WDJ

Brilliant, totally brilliant. You won't get a better record for the money. No more to say, just listen to it.

EX+

£10 SOLD

Little Milton - I'm Tired/Somebody's Changin My Sweet Baby's Mind - Checker

Best known for the Somebody side which is an excellent crossover style dancer. But IMO the side to play is 'I'm Tired' a great dance floor record with breaks, changes of pace all complete with superb backing and the strong vocal delivery you expect from this artist.

M-

£10

Lou Courtney - Beware/What Do You Want Me To Do - Rags

Top quality 70s dancers on both sides, stunner of a record.

M-

£8

Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose - Don't Ever Be Lonely (A Poor Little Fool Like Me) - UA

Sublime mid tempo 70s floater, seems to have been overlooked but really shouldn't be.

M-

£5

Lorraine Johnson - The More I Get, The More I Want - Prelude

In demand killer version of TP's classic.

M-

£15

Sidney Joe Qualls - Run To Me/same - Dakar WDJ

No introduction needed, floor filling 70s.

M-

£35

Also still have the following avaiable from my earlier 'Recommended' list:

Holidays - Watch Out Girl - Golden World

Dark, gritty slab of Detroit soul that sounds awesome out loud. Like many of the cheaper GW, Ric-Tics and Revilot stuff it's also an overlooked gem.

M-

£10....just 2 copies left.

Forevers - What Goes Around (Comes Around) - Weis

Up tempo 60s dancer with strong female lead vocal backed by an excellent girl group, pushed and prompted all the way by a real stormer of a backing track. Sound good? Well it is and why this has yet to get the plays it deserves I don't know!

M-

£25

Major Lance - Do The Tighten Up - Dakar

Totally overlooked, yet it's a totally brilliant record!

M-

£20

Bobby Powell - Do Something For Yourself/It's Getting Late In The Evening - Whit WDJ

Superb double sider that was briefly covered up. It's always worth listening to Bobby Powell's releases as they tend to be cheap but quality and this is one of his best.

M- slight slow warp, NAP

£20

Broadways - You Just Don't Know/Sweet And Heavenly Melody - MGM

Classic double sider and looks great on a black label stock copy, pure class on both sides and time to start spinning it again maybe?

EX few light marks, close to EX+

£40

Bernard Byers - No Time Too Cry - V-Tone WDJ

I love this, RnB dancer with great jazzy influences all combing to make a brill mod dancer.

EX

£20

Ecstasy, Passion & Pain - I Wouldn't Give You Up - Roulette

OK, I'd be surprised if any 70s fans didn't know this already. Classic track and if you don't already own one well here's you chance to get a pristine copy at a dirt cheap price.

M-

£8....1 left

Billy Stewart - Crazy 'Bout You Baby - Chess

Vocal talent that very few can match, this is one of his lesser known 45s. A slow start which builds gently and then bang we're away. Brilliant crossover style dancer.

M-

£10

Frederick Knight - When It Ain't Right With My Baby - Juana

B side dancer only available on the issue. Beautiful piece of modern soul and set at the perfect tempo for dancers.

Mint, got a couple of these and they are mint, unplayed old store stock.

£7

General Johnson - Lies/Can't Nobody Love Me Like You Do - Arista

The official a side 'Can't Nobody' is a typical up tempo 70s dancer which is well worth the price tag by itself. However the real gem is the largely unknown issue only flip of 'Lies', a beautiful mid-tempo stunner of a track. I listed this a few months back and they flew out to some very discerning buyers, been lucky enough to turn up a few more but be quick!

Mint, unplayed store stock with demo sticker on label.

£8

Moses - Sweetest Love - Pure Silk

Really nice soulful 2 stepper that is certainly worth listening to, the potential on this one is huge.

Mint, unplayed store stock.

£6

Robert Taylor & Current Stock - Time Keeps Ticking By/Hot Lady - Lu Tall

2 years ago I hit lucky and stumbled across this 45 in quantity...to be exact a 100 count box. Well they are nearly all gone now and I've got just 5 copies left! That alone tells you that this is a record worth buying, the A side is a stunning 70s mid-tempo track with strings, girlie backing...in fact it has everything and the quality of sound and production makes you wonder how much the label must have spent on it. Flip it over and you get treated to my preferred side an uptempo funk dancer of equal quality.

Mint, unplayed store stock with slight storage dish.
