Neil Rushton
A few sample pages from NORTHERN SOUL STORIES are up on www.soulvation.biz Includes Paul Clifford saying how his dad "Cliff" Clifford was a Saturday helper at the Soul City shop and came up with the brainwave of scrawling "Northern Soul" on boxes at the shop to describe records that would be liked by the football fans from up-North following their team to London and visiting the shop before the match searching for sounds;Dan Penn recalling how he made sure he got into the Fame studio to watch Otis Redding produce "Sweet Soul Music" - Arthur Conley and how Otis was the best producer Dan ever came across when it came to convincing musicans they could deliver more than they thought they were capable of; the madness of the Torch era highlighted by a story about a copy of "Bok To Bach" being hired out(!)every week as Bill Baker refused to sell it; and Dave Thorley and Gary Colbourne quoted on Stafford Top Of The World, illustrated by a lovely looking acetate played at the time of "Hurtin'" - Eric & The Vikings. The book ships out next week, many thanks to everyone who helped with interviews and supplying memorabilia. All the Best, Neil Link to comment Social source share
